The players' union and owners met for four hours on Tuesday, but made little to no progress in negotiations. The remainder of the preseason is officially canceled and if there is no deal in place by Monday, the first two weeks of the regular season will be canceled on that day, according to David Stern.
No future meetings have been scheduled at this point and Billy Hunter and Derek Fisher said the next meeting could happen "a month from now." According to the union, the owners agreed to go from getting 46 percent of basketball related income to 47 percent, while the players want no less than 53 percent. David Stern later said a true 50-50 concept was discussed, but that the players had no interest in it, which is a little surprising. Paychecks for players will start being missed on Nov. 15, and union decertification could be the next step in this process. The news could not have been much worse today.
