The players' union and owners met for four hours on Tuesday, but made little to no progress in negotiations. The remainder of the preseason is officially canceled and if there is no deal in place by Monday, the first two weeks of the regular season will be canceled on that day, according to David Stern.

No future meetings have been scheduled at this point and Billy Hunter and Derek Fisher said the next meeting could happen "a month from now." According to the union, the owners agreed to go from getting 46 percent of basketball related income to 47 percent, while the players want no less than 53 percent. David Stern later said a true 50-50 concept was discussed, but that the players had no interest in it, which is a little surprising. Paychecks for players will start being missed on Nov. 15, and union decertification could be the next step in this process. The news could not have been much worse today.

I don't know what the players problems are most of them are going to be dead broke in a few years anyway. When you are a knucklehead it truly doesn't matter how much money you make. They want their cake and they want to eat it as well. Goodness. Do they not realize that the owners have tremendous expenses unrelated to player payroll that have to be met. These idiots are just being stubborn and greedy. They make all the money while the owners take all the risk. Tell me again how many players sign contracts for millions and then just quit trying. When role players are getting 5, 6, 8 million a year guaranteed for 4 or 5 years you know you have a serious problem. Only the stars need to be making that kind of cash.

I still think the season starts in January. At best, mid-December because I think the NBA values the attention they get with the Christmas Day games and would like to keep them.

looks like the players got it wrong. from the start they have gone at the negotiations thinking it was all about money and that if they agreed to cut their split from 57% to 53% the owners would jump on it. turns out that that is not the sticking point the owners want a hard cap and they're not going to back off from it

The NBA season should be shortened in the first place so it's no big deal to me when it stars

I think they will cancel Christmas soon

After their latest round of wasted time and childish name calling, I'd expect November to be fully cancelled this week. Stern will probably leave it open to start the season on Christmas Day though which is still likely if the NBPA agrees to a deal once the players start missing paychecks in 2 weeks.

Owners have all of the leverage. Unless the players cave, this season is lost.

Expected. They were never going to play November to begin with.

Well, now there are reports that a group of players want to decertify the union (only about 6 months too late).

If this happens, kiss the season goodbye and expect the resulting CBA to totally shaft the players. What a dumb move.

It's their choice. If the players are that stupid it's fine by me. What I don't get is all the talk about Derek Fisher. I honestly believe he has everyone's best interest at heart.

The Fisher talk was a result of a Jason Whitlock story. Considering its Jason Whitlock, I don't put much into it.
