Than it seems he should file a grievance, not retire.

Is Drake "special"? Why isnt he is school?

It's in some of the pieces.

Laroche has worked the schooling out with his small town kansas school. Laroche gets him tutored. He does the work. And as long as he passes certain tests, he's cool.

laroche thinks he'll learn more about life with him than in school (probably true).

I read an article (forget if it was Olney or Stark etc.) that said the Red Sox have a family area for the kids. They could stay around during pre-game until it was time for real BP.

They also provided games and tutoring for the kids in that family center.

A good move IMO.

I believe the Girardi put something like that in the Yanks clubhouse as well.

Most Cubs players with or without kids think it's cool to have them in the locker room hanging out with their dads. Anthony Rizzo called it a "dream" of his one day. As for Adam LaRoche, "It wouldn't be an issue if he drove in a 100 and hit 25 (HR)", said Rizzo.

It would be an issue if a player hitting 35HR's and driving in 120 complained about it.

looks like some agree with adam:suds:
Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports Chris Sale lit into White Sox executive VP Ken Williams during a "contentious" meeting earlier this week.

Sale was upset Williams banned Adam LaRoche's son from the clubhouse, a decision that prompted LaRoche to announce his retirement. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports adds that Sale told Williams to "get out of the clubhouse and stay out." LaRoche's teammates were so upset with Williams that they actually threatened to boycott Wednesday's game against Milwaukee. LaRoche would have earned $13 million had he played this season.

I could see having your kid around at Comisky for a few home stands throughout the year, mainly during the summer... ...but he was bringing him on the road too???

This story is SOOOO weird...

If the reports are accurate, this is what we know so far (trying to avoid assumptions)

1) LaRoche signed a contract with Chicago that included a provision for allowing his son full access to the clubhouse

2) The White Sox front office banned LaRoche's kid from the clubhouse (at least temporarily)

3) LaRoche retired in response

4) White Sox players apparently support LaRoche in this dispute.

There HAS to be a LOT to this story that is not known yet. Why would the White Sox ban the kid if it is specifically written in his contract and if the players apparently support LaRoche? Why would LaRoche simply retire in response instead of file a grievance?

There was also the claim that some players were bothered by him being there all the time and complained about it, which is in direct opposition to point #4.

Let's just blacklist the whole organization.

By players it was sale and eaton. Both close friends of laroche. Entire story is hilarious. Rumor in Chicago is Avila and Rollins went to management asking wtf is up with this kid in the clubhouse all the time

I had heard that the players complaining was just assumption by the media. I hadnt heard any actual "reports" of players saying anything. However, Sale and Eaton and the players boycotting were (I thought) somewhat accurate reports.

If Avila and Rollins did, in fact complain, then again, it falls in Williams' lap. He should have told them that LaRoche has it written in his contract. I agree it is a very odd perk in a contract, but if it is there, it is there...

Everything I've heard on radio in Chicago is there was nothing in writing.

Ah...

Now THAT changes everything.

LaRoche was a moron to just have this as a "hand shake agreement" when apparently it has been an issue with his previous teams. If it is THAT important to him (and it appears it is), he should have had it written in. This would explain why LaRoche is walking away instead of filing a grievance...

At the same time, if it WAS a "hand-shake-agreement", and the Sox backed out of it, that is bad on them, even if completely legal.

Eh, LaRoche comes out looking like a bitch in this one.

I never really liked him when he was a Brave and I damn sure didn't like him as a National, but he was a costar on Chipper's hunting show along with Ryan Langerhans, so I did like him for that.
