I think this will be great. I think it'll not only give us a glimpse inside the locker rooms, but also expose the NHL to the public better. Should be awesome. But dang, if they don't censor this it could get messsssy.

I will completely hate all three parties (Sid/Ov/Bett) if they censor anything. Like I said, a hard knocks type show would be cooler, but this is close enough.

should be cool.
but why do I imagine NFL Films style voice-overs when Sid is tying his skates.

for Jeff's idea, CBC did a series that followed about 8 rookies as they went to their first WHL training camp (Prince George Cougars). Only a couple made the team, but it was interesting to watch the process.

I'd like to see an HBO 24/7 shot in the days leading up to the final round of the playoffs .... they always seem to have close to a week break between the conference finals and the finals ... just think there would be more tension and buildup that way

The 24/7 they did on hatton/mayweather made me want to watch that fight
The UFC produced episode in the days before Chael Sonnen v Anderson Silva made me want to watch that fight

they keep wanting to focus on the winter classic ... dont get me wrong I like the winter classic ... but its not everyday hockey ... a 24/7 right before the cup finals would showcase the real game of hockey to casual fans

it'll never happen. both owners and players would oppose. It would be too much of a distraction before the finals. Preseason is the only place for a 24/7 type show on a team. Anywhere else in the season just becomes a distraction to the team.

I dont buy that. They already have a mass of media humanity following them and asking the same questions the days leading up to the cup finals at practices.

I dont know why the NHL cant bring some production value into the picture and build the tension because this isnt the Super Bowl and that week sees alot of the casual fans interest dropoff.

Im not saying have a camera crew at Sidneys bedside table as Mario tucks him in the night before game 1, for example. They dont have to be that intrusive. ok maybe it wont be 24 / 7 but they can do some good things with minimal production costs

I suppose, I thought you meant follow them around 24/7 in the days leading up to the finals... and rep for that comment, hah.

I just read about this on the Post's Web site.

I'm really looking forward to it and this is great for hockey. HBO Sports usually does such a great job - it will be nice to see some hockey coverage from somebody outside of Versus and that Connecticut-based company that barely acknowledges hockey exists.

It's also more evidence that sports are marketed primarily through their stars. It's a shame it took this long to get the Pens-Caps playing each other in the Classic.

Its a shame they are using the same teams again... I like to see Cindy and OV faceoff just like the next person. But hockey does exist outside of Cindy and the Pittstains.

Yes, but it's good marketing. An in depth look at say, the Rangers or the Panthers is not going to garner interest from the casual fan, and thus, isn't going to be much of a tool to promote the game beyond the borders of those of us already obsessed with hockey. See also: 1980s, NBA, M. Johnson, L. Bird.

The Post did an EXCELLENT look at what will be in this series and how it is happening. See here for more details. Some interesting and honest quotes from the players, coach, and owner.

Definitely sounds like its going to be very interesting. And I agree with you to a point... I'm not being biased to just my team, I'd like to have a look at many teams in the NHL. Just too much attention spent on Penguins and Capitals, and it gets to be a little annoying after a while. It's gonna be a great game, and a great show. I am just hoping they put this much effort into it next year, and with some completely different teams.

At first I was a little turned off with the idea of a hockey reality show, but the more I read into it, the more it intrigued me. I wish they would do this for training camp next year as well as the Winter Classic.

Yeah, I agree with you there. I don't quite get centering it on the build up to the Classic (though I know why they can't do it going up to the playoffs). Part of it is probably that hockey training camp is not as big of a deal as NFL camp - they only have a few months off, the season starts pretty soon after camp opens, etc. - it's just not as big of a deal as "camp" is for football, where every game really matters.

Either way, it's more publicity for hockey. A rising tide floats all ships.

lol Aren't they the same pair of skates with the little lights in the heels that blink with every step?
The plastic heeled, open toed skates that slide open to fit the shoe in...yeah.
