Big Red Slugs
Captain Hook
As far as the "net worth" of Howard in LA versus Houston...I'm not sure anyone could make a point either way on that one. I guess they (LA) could sell-off all their players and pay Howard 98% of the CAP, but they'd have a worse record than the Hornets. Howard's net worth will determined by what the market will pay...regardless of the venue.
Regarding net worth, I was referring mainly to how: (1) He'll garner much greater endorsement money (see Adidas deal) due to a broader exposure around the world; and (2) He'll have better access to opportunities in Hollywood, which has been a stated desire by Howard.
As far as the all-important other factors, the dude owned a house in Malibu well before he ever played for the Lakers, so he obviously likes the city. That has to count for something, especially when he was playing on the other side of the country, was never from LA, yet still chose to spend his summers in LA. Can you put a price on being where you want to be once you're already making $20M?
The other point worth mentioning is what is NEVER mentioned: athletes saying they signed ONLY for the money. Have never seen this stated by any athlete, anywhere. So...(although they may do it all the time), you will likely never hear an athlete stating such inappropriate comments if they wish to be embraced by their team/fans/society/etc.
Fair point. I still think if taxes where as important as some suggest here, we'd hear a lot more about it every summer. It pops up every now and then, but usually doesn't seem to have much sway in the final analysis. Otherwise, we'd be seeing Texas and other states getting all the big-dollar players more often.
