I think Byron has some pull/influence with him. It'll be difficult because his instinct is to score when his teammates are struggling and/or he doesn't trust them. But I think Byron can work on him about that.
Chris Webber made a great point last night when he said that Byron was able to get him to sit when just about any other coach wouldn't have been able to. He said it's because Byron was Kobe's "old head" or mentor when he first came into the league, so Kobe knows that Byron has his and the teams best interests in mind.
I thought Byron getting him to sit for the GSW game was a decent sign of Kobe's respect for him, but Byron getting him to sit out on the Christmas game when he would be playing against Pau, really tells me a lot about their relationship.
Now, it looks like Byron may have him out tonight too.
I agree with your comments on Scott having some pull. He wouldn't have sat for Brown or D'Antoni. Just guys like Phil Jackson and Byron Scott who he trusts implicitly.
