Kobe might not want to wait on developing a draft pick.

From my point of view I would roll the dice and attempt to get Love when he hits free agency.

I'm up for it if Exum is willing to force himself on to the Lakers somehow.

This would be either THE most horrible move, or close to the most horrible move in the Jim Buss era. They need to take this pick and get one of those top guys...or if we don't get a top guy, there's several others that will be good enough. I say horrible for 2 reasons, not because Kevin Love isn't worth it...but why sacrifice everything if we're going to be the front runners for him NEXT year? The biggest reason is I like Kobe just as much as the next person, but I'd be ticked if the Lakers passed on a REALLY decent(at worse) to great(at best) draft pick, just to get the most out of next year

I dont think it would be smart to give up a draft pick for Kevin Love when he becomes a free agent next year. I would love to have him in LA but we need to keep our draft pick for this years draft especially since we dont have a first rounder next year due to the Nash trade.

If its top 4 or higher (meaning 1-3), no way I'm doing that deal. But if the pick is 5 or lower, I'd consider it. The top guys (Embiid, Parker, Wiggins, and Exum) all have the chance to be equal or better players than Kevin Love so that's why I wouldn't trade the pick for them. Everyone else that's left may have all star potential but I'd roll the dice on Love being the better player over his career than guys that are left.

The Lakers should keep the pick. To trade the pick now for a player that the Lakers are the frontrunners for in free agency would be a panic move driven by Kobe's desire to get one more ring, imo. I love what Kobe has done for the franchise, I love his drive and his determination to get this franchise back on top immediately.

However, while I'm all for trying to build a contender right away, it should not be done at the expense of getting young, star quality players who can lead a contending team for years to come. If that's what it means then I'm sorry Kobe, you'll have to try and get ring #6 as coach or someplace else.

The absolute worst case scenario if the Lakers keep the draft pick is they get a guy who is solid, but needs to be brought along slowly and they miss on getting Love after next season. All that would mean is having to go after a different max FA and the re-build doesn't happen as quickly as Kobe and us fans would like. Basically, it ends up taking a season or 2 longer.

Best case: The Lakers get an NBA ready player who is truly NBA ready, they are competitive next year, add Love after next season and depending on other moves, they are contenders for Kobe's final season. Then another max FA is added with the money freed up when Kobe retires.

Keep the damn pick!

When Love see's that we have: a healthy Kobe; a top 5 pick going into his 2nd year; and a new coach - he will want to come home to LA.

We can have both.

And teh Nash trade has just killed us CL67 in more ways than one and if we can somehow snooker someones into giving up a number one than the 2015 draft is going to be abysmal.

That top 5 pick is looking slimmer & slimmer. :gaah:

We just went through this with D12 and we know how that ended. Yes Love says he wants to come to LA but hes also expressed interest in the Bulls and Knicks and to give up a draft pick when we could end up losing Love as a rental would be stupid and set us back.

If they miss out on the top 3, what do you think about trading for Love?

The only way that the Lakers should trade for Love is if it's a sign and trade.
