Which do you prefer to fish-lake or private pond?
I prefer the pond.More private, more chances of hitting a "honey hole" and no boats or jet skis.
Most of my productive days have been in a farm pond not far from my house.Bass, big cats and good size bream will always bite.

depends. I fish a small private lake (about 45-50 acres) a good bit and love it there for the very reasons you mentioned, but then there's that feeling that i have the fish handicapped on such a small body of water. My dad lives up on Murray and I love fishing that lake too. It is full of huge bass, stripers, and catfish. I love to catch fish but the hook for me is the challenge in figuring out what they will bite and when they'll bite it. Trying to put together a successful pattern whether I'm fishing for bass, crappie or striper, or even cats.

I guess the bottom line is I love to fish all of it. I want to learn how to fly fish one of these days. I'll take the private lake.

For bass or bream fishing I like a pond. Whether big enough for a boat or not, I just like the intimacy of the experience, and finding (or already knowing) where the holes and/or underwater "structure" are.
For striper I actually prefer the river.
For cats, definitely the lake, since it's all about sitting there drinking beer and relaxing.

Behind the dam at Buzzard's Roost (Lake Greenwood), stripers of 35 to 40 pounds are common.
BTW,sometimes I like to sit, drink beer and drown worms too.

For cats I like trot line on a creek...especially if you know where the deep holes are for the big ones. :D

Nothing beats a small pond IMO; sittin' under a shady tree with a cooler of beer, some night crawlers, and nothing but time is one of the greatest feelings in the world

Private ponds are great, but I prefer river fishing.

I like fishing in ponds especially when the are hitting. But I like the openess of the lake, and the assortment of fish in them, also the different techniques used to fish. In addition to getting up on a boat early in the morning or fishing for cat's late at night, or just doing some ol' lazy ass trolling. When I think of a pond, I think of the ones that were at the ranch. They are about medium size.

We went to a private pond in April and caught about 30-35 bass between the 3 of us. It was fun, but I still prefer walking along side a river or being out on a boat.
