The Nash comparison is only similar in that both ended up with the Rangers. First of all: Columbus was not in a good place at that time. It was pre-Jarmo. Also, the team wanted to move him to get a big return. I don't recall Nash saying "NY or bust" either. I'm pretty sure he really wanted to stay, but was happy where he ended up.

If Johnny knew what Rick's actual choices were in order, his head would explode.

Just let him stay in that vacuum of "everyone wants to play in new york". It's comfy for him there.

Really? I've seen plenty of your ''refs against us'' posts on here and crying about how they cost you a game....

And once again, is it my fault he lives in Connecticut which is a short 45 minute drive from NY? Explain how that's on me. Please enlighten me

Not to jump in to your convo with someone else, but hey, it's a message board: why was the short drive not a factor when he was a UFA? HE signed the long deal with Tampa, but suddenly an Olympic snub leads to him demanding a trade? It makes him seem like a petulant child, not a professional. He was pouting, and he got his way. It's not like he wasn't already established in Tampa with his family. He's been there for 13 years. I don't fault him for wanting to go, but he left his team high and dry, and hamstrung his GM (who still got a good return). When he signed his most recent deal, I believe it was the 2010 season. Not like he signed a 20 year deal 10 years ago and things had changed. Things are different now for Tampa...but in a good way.

He wanted SJ or Rangers as per trade, pretty sure everyone knew that. He may have wanted to stay in CBJ, but I don't think he's upset about being here right now. But I know you know better than me.

He actually wanted to come here then, and was actually a signature away from signing here before re-upping with the Lightning. And then just a few years into that, he was almost traded here as well, but they couldn't get a trade to agree with the Bolts. He's wanted to be here for a few years now.

Maybe he knew TB was a sinking ship? IDK. I'm not the one that made the decision, i'm just going based off of what I know.

So, how about those Lady Byng nominees?

/Trying to get back on topic

I think O'Reilly wins it. He had a heck of a season and he didn't take a penalty until the last week of the season against the Sharks. If memory serves correctly, it was a tick tacky penalty at that.

Didn't drop a broken stick fast enough.

Totally his. There's gonna be a lot of hardware raining down on Denver this year.

Roy will win Adams (not even close)
Mac will win Calder (not really close)
ROR should get the Byng (not even close)
and I would not be surprised if Varly gets the Vezina. I personally think Rask should, but would not be surprised to see it go to Varly.

I like ROR as well for the Lady Byng, Slim. The Avs will likely clean up this season as I can see MacKinnon winning the Calder and Roy taking home the Jack Adams.

I think Penguins fans would disagree with you, Johnny.

The Adams should be the biggest landslide of the bunch, IMO.

And well deserved by Colorado. That's the way it's supposed to happen. Get a high pick, get a new coach and improve. Immediately.

Kudos are certainly in order for the Avs.

Two things I would add though.

1)The Avs have had a lot of statistical puck luck this year. Time will tell if they continue to progress.

2) They were bad for a while. With the exception of one year where Craig Anderson channeled his inner Roy, they've been a bad team. Their core (Landy, Mac and the duche) is built out of top 3 overall picks made over a 5 year span.

The smartest thing the Avs did was to hang onto Joe Sacco long enough in order for "We're Not Winnin' for MacKinnon" to come to fruition.

Two years ago, they almost made the playoffs and missed out in the last game or two of the season - that was when Varly had came to the Avs and they went on a nice run near the end of the season, so they alternated between good and bad seasons, now hopefully for them it will be consistent seasons now

Looks like the Capitals traded away the wrong goalie. Varlamov and Forsberg for Erat :L Solid deal

Cobie, maybe it's best to have separate threads for each of the major awards (we've done that in previous years) as this one has got kind of cluttered. Let me know and I'll rename this one to be the Lady Byng award nomination thread.

This is gonna go in circles all day, so i'll just stop now.

I hope Marleau wins the award.

Boyle's comment on Marleau's nomination: "It’s not something you dream about. I guess it gets you a flight to Vegas." :laugh3:
