I don't see it. Not that Williams doesn't have the talent, it just that Alex Smith isn't Tom Brady and our system doesn't tailor to slot receivers like New England's.

That's true... I wonder though if Harbaugh might use the slot package more to make more use of Williams. Williams really makes the most of his time on the field, either way I think we'll see more of Williams the rest of the way.

The 2 TE package has worked well, but anybody notice how Davis has reemerged over the past few weeks and with that Delanie's production has become non-existent. Not really sure what to make of that, but if they are only going to utilize one of them (in the passing game) at a time maybe it's time to get away from that package a little more. Might be an opening to use more of Williams there.

No, go ahead and reverse that.

I was about to respond to your little rant on the other page, but it looks like you've already conceded that you were wrong about Nelson vs. Jones. I'll just leave it at that.

Nelson is clearly the Packers' second receiver, behind only Greg Jennings. He benefits from Driver on the other side, but he's having a great season in his own right (and is killing my fantasy team lately by taking balls away from Jennings....). Driver benefited yesterday from being the Packers' third receiver and fourth receiving option. And then James Jones is the fourth receiver who will put together the occasional big game, but otherwise is almost an afterthought.

I know he is their 2nd best WR statistically, but what I meant by 3rd or 4th was his position on the depth chart. With a quick glance at NFL.com's depth chart for the Packers. He is listed as Donald Driver's backup, and I honestly don't know if Jones plays more than Nelson as Jenning's backup.

Also, with their system, the 3rd and 4th WRs are practically starting anyways since they play so often. I just can't honestly say Nelson is consistently going up against one of the opponents best two CBs, can you? I really have no idea if defensive coordinators are playing the Packers WRs, I was just going with an assumption that starting WRs drew starting CBs.

Anyway, back to Williams, I was just trying to use Nelson's success as a non-starter for an example to keep Williams where he is. Ginn draws faster DBs and even safeties, so the mismatch created by Williams against a team's nickelback is working really well for Kyle and the offense the last few games.

Yeah, I noticed a few weeks back that Driver is listed as one of their starters. And he may be, but there's no doubt in my mind that Nelson is their second guy. Even if he was drawing less attention earlier in the year, he had nearly 300 yards and three TDs after the first four games. Everyone has known who he is from that point on. There's little doubt that Jennings still draws the most attention from opposing Ds, but any DC who is prioritizing Driver or Jones over Nelson needs his head examined.

Yeah, I'd hope so too. Driver is only a threat if you leave him wide open. I'd expect that DC's shift the coverage over to Nelson when he enters the game, but I don't know for sure. So, maybe that was a bad example because I can't watch their games, I can't stomach the one-sided officiating in their games.

Forget my poor choice for an example then, I'll just stick with my thought that Kyle Williams offers more to the offense as the 3rd WR who presents matchup difficulties for 3rd CBs.

I wouldn't abandon your thinking at all, Three. I think both you and Crimson are right, here. I think Nelson has emerged as their #2, (even though Driver is still listed as their second starter @ WR on game-day) and I think DC's would naturally be more concerned about Nelson over Jones.

However, the talent differential between Nelson & Jones is nominal, they can both make all the catches and run all the routes. Thus if defenses adjust to much to one side, Rodgers will make them pay by just shifting to the other side.

So, to reiterate, I agree Nelson is Rodgers #2 target, however I don't think Aaron will lose a blink of sleep if he had to make Jones his #2 target because defenses were pinching too much on Nelson. Thus, I think you are both correct in your opinions, if that makes any sense.

From what I have seen this season, Nelson is much more reliable than Jones. Jones has a lot of physical talent, maybe more than Nelson, but he just doesn't catch the ball with the consistency you'd like to see in a number two guy. Nelson struggled with drops last year, but it seems like he's really cleaned it up this year.

I agree that Jones is still a pretty darn good option when the D takes away Nelson, and he can be particularly effective at stretching the field. But Nelson has really taken a step over last year's postseason and this year that Jones just hasn't made yet.

Exactly one thing we have been missing is the home run plays! Figured Ginn could do it. But looks like KW might be that guy.

I was looking for video of William's stiff arm, and was distracted by half naked ass in the related videos.

The smile on his face is great. It's like a young man around a woman for the first time.

Haha I said the same thing.

But many of us forget that Kyle Williams was drafted as a return specialist first and a wr prospect second. We might not have to sign Ginn if he can do that plus become a #2. But I really hope he gets more playing time. He has that one cut and gone ability that this offense is missing.

Williams and Hunter add some big-play threat to this offense, and it's been far too long without that. I'd like to see us get both of them more involved as the playoffs approach.

San Francisco 49ers: Wide receiver Kyle Williams (173) has 1.93 Yards Per Route Run, which is significantly higher than Braylon Edwards and Ted Ginn. However, both Edwards and Ginn remain ahead of Williams on the depth chart.
