*sigh*

Joe Reedy ‏@joereedy

#bengals C Kyle Cook's visit to a specialist must not have been good. Per league sources, Jeff Faine is coming in tomorrow for a tryout

Brad Johansen ‏@bradjohansen

#Bengals C Kyle Cook visited foot specialist. Not good. Sources tell me could be season ending. Know FA C Jeff Faine will visit tomorrow.

This may be a blessing in disguise as Cook has been horrible! Jeff Faine is a former 1st Rd pick and Pro Bowler, I wouldn't be upset if he was signed.

Yeah, losing your center 14 days before the opener is great news..... Jeff Faine is just hanging out at home because he's waiting to play for Mike Brown, not because he sucks.

If you thought the interior line was terrible before, wait until week 1 in Baltimore. We're winning 5 games at most this season. Mark it down.

Lewis said free-agent rookie Trevor Robinson of Notre Dame, who didn't play center until he got here, gets the start against the Colts.

"He's done a great job," Lewis said. "Twenty percent of the NFL is undrafted every year. He's one of those great stories. (Notre Dame) Coach (Brian) Kelly couldn't have spoken higher about the guy and we worked hard to sign him after the draft."

LOL!

That's a Hobspin like gem!

Just like last year offensive line is crap. Maybe next year.

I think this will look like the 2008 version that got Carson killed. At least Wharton and Cook were vets that were serviceable (that was the plan going into this year anyway)..... Our entire season will now bank on a FA center, a promising rookie guard, and a guard (Boiling) that was completely overmatched to the point that he was replaced by a bum. Oh, and our running backs are terrible and we don't have a second receiver.

Dropping like flies (sigh)......never been a huge fan of Cook, always thought he was a product of Hobspin who really wasn't very good, but still a huge loss two weeks before the season opener......look out Andy!

I still have nightmares about Eric Ghiachuc. A bad center can really sink an offensive line. Cook was nothing special, but he also didn't completely suck.

He's an average center...but that would be a huge blow (especially in the AFCN). Losing Wharton for Boiling didnt concern me. Losing Cook for Stephens? Faine? Hudson? would be a major downgrade. Coincidentally if Wharton was still healthy they would've probably slid Boiling over to C.

LOL the sky is falling the sky is falling...LOL So we have experience in Whit, and Smith and if Faine starts he has played 10 years was a pro bowler played 16 games last season and cook is better than him??????????? FUCKIN LAUGHABLE PEOPLE! Faine is a damn upgrade who has played for Jay Gruden before....

SIgn him and give him a couple of games and we will be fine...We will be throwin often anyway and he is a better pass blocker than run blocker...He has played against Bmore, Pitt and Cleveland so he knows the AFC North...This is a good sign. Make it happen

Centers don't play for 3 teams (now 4) in less than 10 years if they're any good. And they definitely don't sit on their couch for 5 months before a team eventually signs them, and that due to injury. He was pro bowl replacement one year because I'd assume Brees made him look good. Interestingly, they let him go the following offseason. Doesn't sound too probowl-ish to me.

Gruden was an offensive assistant when Faine was with the Bucs. He didn't actually play for Jay. Nor did they run the same offense.

Let's drop the homerism.

Wil we know how vital center is in the AFCN. Remember the drop off between Braham and Ghiaciuk? If we had a viable guy behind Cook that would be one thing...but we have no depth at C. We've got Reggie Stephens...and yeah, I agree with the others...If Faine was worth having he wouldn't be available right now.

I think our backup centers are so damn bad that grabbing Faine is indeed an upgrade if Cook is out a prolonged period of time.

I mean how bad could his injury be if he finished the whole damn game on it and the coaches were unaware of the injury until afterward?

Broken bone maybe 4 to 6 weeks? High ankle sprain another 4 to 6 weeks? Turf toe 4 to 6 weeks?

Besides tearing the achillies, which he would have never finished the game on, a foot injury is about 4 to 6 weeks at the worst case scenerio.

Just because he was on the street for a few months doesnt mean he is not good....LMFAO! Maybe he wants to start MAYBE there were not any STARTING center positions available but back up positions are and he wants to PLAY! You cant just automatically assume because he was at home for months he is not wanted or not good...The guy wants to start! So he waited for an opportunity and its about to be presented to him...lets see what he does...AGAIN! Jeff Faine is a Got Damn upgrade over Kyle Cook! LOL Im laughing at people who NOW believe Cook is a world beater....

The only thing against him is a learning curve of the offense....He knows 3-4's He knows the AFC North Teams....He is a 10yr Vet! Learn the damn plays and do the same thing Cook was doing WHICH WAS AVERAGE CENTER PLAY! LOL

I'm assuming that the guy wants to get paid first and formost....and you cannot get paid sitting on the couch. I dont know what the NFL vet minimum is but I'm sure it's not chump change. Plus, if he's sitting on the couch I'm sure Faine knows he'd have to compete for a job. However you want to spin it, the fact that this guy is available right now, this late in the preseason, does not bode well for the Bengals. they might be better off waiting for the next round of cuts and getting more bodies in to 'kick the tires' on
