Wow, according to some folks here the NHL didn't have a chance to win this one.

Who? I know a lot of people thought the NHL shouldn't win it. Still don't think they should've won. Not too surprised though.
You seriously are not surprised after all the shit you said about how the league can't change this and that?
Actually, with the money Kovy wants, if the Devils end up restructuring and keeping him, then the new contract would end up with more bite, in terms of cap hit at least.I was kind of looking forward to watching that contract bite the Devils in the ass. Oh well.
I'm not defending the ruling per se, but the Kovy contract was much more blatent than the Hossa one. To say that they were structured the exact same is a bit understated, IMO.It's ridiculous it was overturned after Hossa just played a season with the exact same structured contract. Oh well.
Edit: And I stand by all that "shit" I said.

Glass half full, dev fans...perhaps the NHL just saved the Devils from shooting themselves in the footYeah, we'll wait and see. But for some reason I just have a bad feeling regarding giving Kovy a 10+ year deal.

So I guess the main argument the league put forward is that no one could expect Kovy to be playing until the end of his contract?!? Hmmm, Mark Recchi is still playing, Chris Chelios played until the age of 47. Oh well.
I thought the main reason behind the ruling was the level of cap circumvention, not the length?
In my eyes, the difference between Kovy's contract and, say, Hossa's contract is like the difference between getting stopped for going 90 in a 65mph zone versus going 75 in a 65 zone.
