TSN reports that Chesnokov reports that Kovalchuk's agent gave NHL an ultimatum - sign Ilya in 48 hours or else

What's wrong with this story? Well, to start with - Yuri Nikolaev is Kovalchuk's agent in Russia. He handles KHL. He was never a part of contract talks with NJ and NHL. Kovalchuk is represented in NHL by Jay Grossman.
Why would a guy who has nothing to do with Ilya's NHL contract negotiations all of a sudden start giving ultimatums to NHL?
I assume, Chesnokov (or PuckDaddy or whoever) doesn't know more than us about the situation. He is just trying to become relevant by exploiting Kovalchuk's saga to full extent: "Kovalchuk will get signed in next 24 hours", "New Kovalchuk deal rejected by NHL", freaking ultimatum.
What's next? "Kovalchuk will play on Mars this season?"
