Two thoughts on this. One is, rumors have it Johnson wanted the job last year. Two, there is not a better scenario out there for a team that needs a coach than the Bears. The offensive weapons, very nice. Rookie QB that has shown potential, super sweet. A solid Defense, win, win. Do the Bears have some issues, sure, O line comes to mind, some D line help also, but that's about it.
Like just about every other Bears fan, I'm with you on going after Johnson first and foremost. The trouble is just about every team who will be seeking a new HC will be doing likewise. It's why I appreciate learning about other possible candidates for the job. I remain hopeful that even if we don't land Johnson, that we stick with someone on the O side of the ball. And naturally, let's first see how Brown works out these last five games.

Not sure I'd like him as much being our HC as opposed to an OC. And since he's already that now, I doubt he'd want to make a lateral move. But due to his past relationship with Caleb, it presents an interesting scenario.
I actually liked KK in Arizona and never felt that situation was his fault, FWIW.

We never get the "sexy" coordinator hire. I'm ready to safely rule out us landing Ben Johnson. I would be VERY happy, if we did. I just don't think it is realistic. For whatever reason, it just doesn't happen with us.

Atlanta barely scores more than we do and they have a legit veteran QB.

You need to look deeper than that.

It's more about the actual system and how Atlanta spreads the ball around. And his experience working with QBs. He's the type of guy you want coaching a young QB.

Been seeing and hearing a lot of the same names being earmarked as the next Bears HC. Not against some of the names.

Maybe Poles needs to think outside the box. The Broncos traded for Sean Payton last season. The 49ers and Rams arent doing too good. What would it take to trade for McVay or Shanny? Kick the tires at least.

If we were super terrible and several years away from even being competitive, I'd actually be open to trading a valuable pick or picks for a proven winning coach. But we just played 3 of the 4 toughest and winningest teams in the NFC and lost all three games by a total of 7 points, 7 stinking points. Yeah, we're a crappy 4-8 and any chances of us making the postseason are pretty much zilch, but this team has talent. It needs more, but it's closer to being a playoff contender than our record would otherwise indicate. I'd rather see us hang on to these valuable picks and fortify the roster. Maybe Brown ends up being the next HC, altho I believe Poles has his heart set on hiring someone of his choosing. And if so, there should be any given number of HC wannabees that will gladly jump at the chance to run this team. Not sure we'll have the pick of the litter (ie, Ben Johnson), but there will be some quality options.

Not disagreeing, but not all draft picks pan out. Bringing in a McVay or Shanahan could also attract vets who'd want to play for them.

Think of the players that followed Harbaugh/Roman to L.A. Or even the few that followed Payton to Denver. It can pay dividends not measured by draft picks.

It would cost enough 1st round draft capital, that I am not interested.

We'll have to pay Caleb in 2-3 years (if all goes well). Those draft picks are going to mean the world once we have a lot money tied up.

We've played 5 teams currently on the inside of the playoff picture (Detroit, Minnesota, Green Bay, Washington, and Houston). Each game came down to the final drive and the final moments. 3-4 of those we straight up let get away. With Caleb's development since Waldron departed (and since the line got some semblance of health, which people leave out) I have no doubt that we are "there", in terms of being a playoff team. We could put up a fight against any team in the post-season right now and we've proven that.

Hopefully the right coach, further development from Caleb, and some additional pieces up front defensively/offensively will give us the nudge over the top into January football again.

As Jameis Winston might say - "Praise the Lord!" if/when it does happen. I am starved for Bears playoff football again. 2018 seems like a lifetime ago now. I don't know about you guys, but the 2020 appearance was super backdoor-ish and kinda lame. We knew we were going down in that New Orleans game. 2018 was the last time this team made me feel alive.

I brought up Carroll because Waldron was doing a bad job of running Carrolls offensive system, so it would protect the asset by not changing what has been drilled into him for 6 months.

They could have had Kingsbury last year but it's hard to hire an OC that you turned down as HC. It would be interesting to see who did not persue KK because the Washington quarterback sure seems to be handled correctly. I always figured it was the fluke because it would have made him easier to replace.

I am pretty shocked that none of our fans or beat writers seem to want to see what Thomas Brown can do as the head coach. He did not stick around Carolina after he did not get the job and he will be a head coach somewhere eventually. McVey made him an assistant head coach, just never made him offensive coordinator.

I think 1 or 2 guys here has mentioned about seeing what Brown can do as coach before moving on from him......as I kinda am.
Hes at the helm,so its an audition for him.......
But of course Poles and company will due their due dilligence in the coaching search.

Ive heard all kinds of names being involved, and we will be hearing names till end of the season......
Latest was Brian Flores this morning cause he went to school with Poles......I dont think that has any bearing on why they would hire Flores.

My names Im interested in is Ben Johnson of course(hes on everyones list in the NFL),but when I mentioned it in a very earlier post in a different thread, you shut it down.......But he is on my list of wants with two otjer names:
Vrabel,he showed he can be a a head coach, took the Titans to the playoffs with Tannehill as their qb......and took them to the afccg.

And Joe Brady is my other choice if he wants to leave Buffalo......after firing Ken Dorsey as their oc,Brady has shown what he can do for Josh Allen.......he has that offense on fire.

Right now those 3 are on my wish list......

From the outside looking in, I would make a run at Zac Taylor. I think he's about done in Cinci and its a brilliant offensive mind and I think he would great timing for him as well.

Defensive side......get Robert Saleh right now!!!!

Lol.....as soon as I say Vrabel is one of my top 3 picks, then its reported he is interested in the Jets......
Jets got a good def, right up his alley,so I can see him going there......

But of course its all talk for now.

Zac Taylor is a name I haven’t heard in the coaching search. I’m not so sure he will be available though.

I’d be all for getting Saleh now to finish out the season, tbh. Just to make sure he’s our DC next year.

He's under contract but I think he could be bought. Cinci is so damn cheap, you could probably offer $100 buck and a bowl of skyline and they'd take it.

If history is any indication, we will drop the ball on the Thomas Brown situation, somehow.

Either...

A) Brown wins a few games, Caleb looks good in the process, and we jump the shark - keeping him. This time next year, we're 4-8 cursing his name.

B) We don't keep Brown and he shoves it up our ass. Becomes a winning HC elsewhere while we continue in our pit of misery.
