Chris Webber was my favorite NBA player in the 90's.

I was in the Navy and stationed in Japan, where we only had the one channel, armed forces network:gaah:.

So obviously, the NCAA Tourney dominated the TV.

I entered a office pool, with a blind draw, $250 per ticket and pulled the Fab 5 out of my ass:yahoo:.

Easiest 5k I have ever made.

I said all that to say, I dry-heave each and every time I see Webber flying out to try to block that Horry shot. But, Big-shot Bob busted his grill anyway :bawling:.

for some reason, game 7 of that series is almost NEVER mentioned by the conspiracy theorists....playing at Arco in front of their home crowd, in the final ten seconds with L.A. up 99-98, Peja Stojakovic air-balled a wide open 3 (wasn't he a deadly shooter in those days??)

The Kings' offense stalled in OT and was undone by poor free throw shooting (16-30 from the line); they were the BEST FT shooting team that season, and a horrid 2-20 from behind the arc; they were top 3 in league from behind line, and a seeming unwillingness for anyone other than Bibby to take crucial shots down the stretch.

They could have shut Lakers, refs, and anybody else up about the other alleged foul calls in games 4 & 6 had they taken care of business in game 7....so convenient not to knowing the Kings CHOKED in game 7, plain and simple.

Now the 2000's refs, those refs knew how to manipulate games! Classic series, fun to watch!

:wtf: Perfection!

If you've got the time since its a really long read, this is well worth it:

All the Kings? Men «

It's an oral history of the series with comments from many different people (players, coaches, reporters, etc)

I was the biggest Kings fan in those days. At the time Mike Bibby was my favorite player in the NBA. Because I was still pretty young, that was the most heartbroken I've ever been as a sports fan.

All that, and I am not willing to claim any kind of conspiracy. That was a great series with lots of great moments. The Lakers took care of business and the Kings did not.

Shaq was as dominant as ever that year, and fouling him was generally a very sound strategy. Pointing at overal FT attempts just doesn't do justice to what was really going on that series.

Great article. My favorite quote in the whole thing was by Vlade: "Basically, I made a great pass to Robert Horry."
