Except it'll be on Epix instead of HBO. Another blow to DirectTV customers. Seems odd to me that Lombardi and Sutter would agree to this if it's true.

I see satellite & cable providers going out of business in the near future. More and more people are finding apps that provide the same services except cheaper and are more customized for the customers' needs. I'm under contract for another year, but I intend to cancel my satellite provider and just subscribe to a bunch of apps when that contract is thru.

I'm the technologically challenged one out of our group here, can you explain to me how this works?

My basic understanding is you have to have internet, then what? Where does the app come from? Is it through Netflix? Or is that an app itself?

I have DirecTV and love it, picture and audio quality scare me regarding doing this type of thing. I don't want to have to watch a garbled Kings game or movie.

You need to have some sort of internet device connected to your TV, whether that be an XBOX, Playstation, Roku, Apple TV, etc, something to connect your television to the internet (my blu ray player also does this). Then you search for the apps & download them.

As far as the picture quality I'm not sure. I got Netflix & the WWE Network, gonna try out NHL GameCenter this year. Picture quality seems fine to me, not sure if it's in 1080p tho.

Gotchya, we have an XBox 360 and a bluray as well. So this is all contingent on a good interwebz connection it sounds like. We have Time Warner for that and I have never had any issues.

This is more Mrs. Puck's territory, she knows all this stuff.

We have a Samsung 55" LED, will this work? I assume it will, but the TV is 3 years old and I'm sure all kinds of new stuff has come out since then.

XBOX360 should work just search for the app you want. I would try Netflix, you get a free trial for a month to see if you like it or not. You could watch movies & television shows just to see if the picture quality is to your liking. What I like best about Netflix is that there's no commitment, you could cancel any month. Also a 3 year old TV should work just fine.

I know a lot of people that use all the apps. I still have Direct TV and they have treated me very well and I have zero complaints with them. If Direct TV turns to crap I will jump ship and try whatever is the new thing at that time...until then they get my $$

Those of us that don't have Epix this was part of the announcement.
as part of the agreement with the NHL, all hockey fans in the United States will have access to the finished product

Maybe on NHL tv or online(?)

King fans might be interested in knowing you get a free trial with Epix, might want to use that for keeping up with the show?
