Scotchy Scotch Scotch!
Here are my key personal flash points:
1) He (Drew Doughty) said he felt sick when he saw DL speaking w Calgary thinking he might not be going to the Kings
2) Lifelong Kings fan
3) Works his tail off to get in shape before ever playing an nhl game.
4) Has an outstanding two years (and maybe thinks an 85% commitment will do based on his huge talent).
Going the other direction
5) Then shows up in relatively poor shape last year
6) Has for him a very average year
(also, I don’t care that an average year for him is an ok year for another player… if he were
‘another player’ then he’d be having out of body experiences)
7) Then in the playoffs, he did have one great game…. out of six that is. Also made some big mistakes and in Game 3 when you need your best player to sort of settle things down and take control when things are going against you, he clearly didn’t. Not that anyone else did either.
So you look at points 1 thru 4 Or you look at points 5 thru 7. Two different Doughty’s in my opinion. Also, say he gets a monster contract and shows up late and out of shape (again) and plays like he did last season….. the fans will be all over him imo.
I suppose point 8 would be, where does he get this idea (or his agent) that he should be paid as much as a Nick Lidstrom or Chris Pronger? He has neither won a cup or a Norris.
5 through 7 is youth. what they need is a D mentor for him. Hire Larry Robinson as a Defensive coach and that will clear him up
