Keith law just shredded this trade for boston.

and rightfully so.

Those are the types of prospects that can headline a sonny gray deal. Not a deal for a closer.

Lol. That is just incredible. He was considered little more than a spare part when they got him. That's all he ever really was.

Would it be fair to say that a spare part was the only role he was given prior to being traded to LA? Because he has been a stud playing every day from day one with the Doyers. Trust me, I wish he weren't.

Keith Law hates every deal that involves a prospect. We all know this. Every prospect is the next Tris Speaker to him.

When the closer is the best in baseball right now then you trade people to make it happen. As a Red Sox fan I'm glad to see it happen.

You are ignoring the value of team control and opportunity cost.

By vastly overpaying for kimbrell it hurts your ability to make other trades.

Not at all. We won't know if they "vastly overpaid" for many years. Stop assuming all prospects are a sure thing. You are probably one of those guys still holding his breath on Lars Anderson and Anthony Ranaudo. The Red Sox bullpen was absolutely awful last year. They had to do something like this to win at the Major League level. At the end of the day, winning games at Portland and building for the future gets old. Meanwhile, they still have Betts, Bogaerts, Ed. Rodriguez, Swihart, JBJ, Owens & Shaw(all of whom are 25, or under). And they STILL have their best prospects in Moncada, Devers & Benintendi, too. I highly doubt that Margot is "the one that got away". It's time for the Red Sox to get out of last place and this will help quite a bit in an area with glaring weakness.

The fact that you question if they vastly overpaid means my entire premise from my previous post is still accurate.

That deal brought back the key piece to the 07 title team (Beckett).

Too bad he and Lester both choked horrifically against the Rays in 08.

Kinda mixed. Sox fill a need with Kimbrel and they didn't really give up any prospects they'll miss too much IMO. Margot and Guerra are legit top 100 prospects, though Guerra is blocked at SS by Bogaerts. Guerra's glove is highly touted and he flashed HR power in 2015, though it remains to be seen whether it's real or not. Betts wasn't known for his power and he suddenly started hitting for power.

It's a lot to give up for a relief pitcher.

Two double A guys and two single A guys for a proven MLB player????

You gotta be kidding me, I'd make that trade all day, every day.

Clearly someone doesn't get it.

Look at past trades for SPs.

Guys like Gallardo and Samarzija went for way less than this. just last offseason.

I am not too crazy about this trade. Boston doesn't have 4 closer caliber RP's to suffocate people. No chaining can really occur there. They need help in the rotation more than their BP.

Keith Law has you programmed well. I've seen these arguments many times over the years. The fact is that he had Jesus Montero as one of he most valuable commodities in all of baseball a few years ago. Prospects are a wild card. How valuable are those controllable years on Matt Barnes now?

So you'd rather have Kimbrell than a player with the value of a samardzija last winter (aka much higher than it is now)?

Bad example. I don't happen to think very highly of Samardijiajaja in the first place.

So after the Giles trade...no question the Sox overpaid for Kimbrell.
