Watching Jim Norton roast someone for being gay is just a bit weird.

Adam Ray is getting a bit over-exposed, but he is still the hands down best guest the show has ever had. Not sure I really like this character, though.

still not sure what the purpose of a "character" is... but this was a very tame one... what i mean is that i dont think the show would have been much different if it was Adam Ray as himself as a guest... if he wanted a character to steal the show, i am sure, he would do that.. he basically did that when he was Biden....

And I remember the days when Tony was militant in his dislike of “characters”. Yet now he absolutely LOVES Dice and Ray.

Again, I am not attempting to shit on Ray. I think he is hilarious and is super quick on his feet. He is one of the better “unknown” comics in the game today, and SHOULD be pretty huge when all is said and done. I am just saying that Tony is leaning on him too much atm.

haha yes! I remember that. It was hilarious how upset Redban would get when someone came on and did a character.

You may be right that it was more of a Redban critique than a Tony critique. Tony thought it was a crutch, but Redban would violently attack the comic and pull out preemptive bears on them.

Yeah I don't really like characters that much but Redban's reaction made it worth it

I remember one guy who went on as an old clown. It was somehow sad and hilarious at the same time, because you knew Tony and Redban were going to hate it.

I'll be honest though. For some reason I loved Goat versus Fish.

Gotta be honest.

I don’t get Holzman.
I think he saw a few episodes of All in the Family back in the day and said "they're laughing at a guy who is racist and sexist. Maybe I should just do that for the next 45 years".

The good news is I'm guessing you bringing up Holtzman on a random Saturday means they dropped another episode.

I suppose he works if he is following a clean comic in a small room because of his shock style. Or in a room full of drunk, tired audience members.

I think this is how he has been used at the Store in the past. He isn’t a headliner, but as a guy who can add energy to a small audience, I guess he has value.
