After watching Boise beat Utah St. last night, mainly on pure grit, I think that the key to the team is not Marks, Drimic, or any of the long range shooters, it's the guy in the middle, Ryan Watkins. The man pulled down 10, yes ten offensive rebounds last night. He ended up with 15 points, all hard earned put backs and shots in heavy traffic. And 16 total rebounds, playing against a trio of Aggies who were taller and outweighed him. At 6'9" he routinely goes against those bigger men, and out hustles them. I've never seen a guy so possessed to clean the boards since Rodman in his prime. Let's hope that Ryan stays out of piercing studios, tattoo parlors and North Korea.
Boise plays a 4 guard offense, but without a rock in the middle, they would be mediocre. Here's to rebounding, the forgotten skill.
