Trying to see if our pitching can carry our sorry offense.
My guess? Mid season, we call up Joey Bart to catch. He hits a homer in his first game and let’s a revitalized Posey play first. With his fresh legs, Posey hits like the Posey of 2010, Bart continues to rake, Belt moves to LF and hits timely HR’s, the pitching of 2019 pitch like 2012 and after one last Herculean Bum effort, the Giants win their first odd year WS.

We aren't tanking Orioles style no, but what do you suppose we are doing?
It's time for some MF optimism. (!)

Maybe our pitching is better than we think. It's not 2010/12/14 better, yet, but after 5 games, we lead the NL in ERA by a pretty wide margin. I know, SSS.

Anyway, we gave up nothing, and got something we needed.

I'm not folding 5 games into the season. Bum wins the next game, and we are .500.

If the not-yet-too-old veteran hitters can start hitting a little bit...

Just like with filo's scenario, that won't be happening but I gave you a like for optimism also!

True, I agree 100%. But I would have said the same thing in 2010 too lol. Hell 2014 too.

2010 just happened before we expected it. We knew we had a good team in the making. I expected us to start competing (seriously) in ‘11, not ‘10.

Tz, dude, you expect WAY too much. No team can have 5 Walter Johnson’s. It just isn’t possible.

Basically De Paula for Pillar. I'm okay with that. While I don't necessarily like the idea of subtracting from the minors to add players over 30, I'm fine with this.

Ideally Parra and Pillar would platoon in RF and we have an actual LFer, but as it stands I would assume Pillar plays most days in RF and Parra and Joe split time in LF.

The Giants' outfield defense has been some of the worst in the majors the last few years, now they are definitely above average which is extremely important at the Cove. I'm not convinced Pillar is still elite, two straight years in decline based off the metrics and his speed has declined as well. He's still at least average, probably better.

Not a thrilling move, but this is the unfortunate circumstance the team is in. Who knows, maybe he gets hot at the right time and a team really needs him in July if the Giants are out of it.

When I saw this at work, my initial reaction was terrified because I figured it would be at Duggar's expense, but luckily it sounds like Duggar will remain the guy and get occasional days off thanks to Pillar.

Responding to the bullshit rating you gave for my comment about the quality pitching we have (made before tonight’s game, obviously)
Ahhh...understood.

My bullshit critique was to the idea of "wasting" pitching. It's not wasted IMO.

It is odd that we never talk about a team "wasting" offense, just pitching.

FWIW, I agree that our staff is probably playoff caliber.

Except for the Dutchman, evidently.
