Wasn't he never gonna win anything again in the last thread? :omg:

I do enjoy the debate of whose better Verlander or Kershaw here in Detroit. I have even been told that Verlander is the best starting pitcher in the last 50 years.

Let's put things in perspective. I'm never betting against Verlander.

I have watched Verlander since he was at ODU. IMO it is too close to call between these two, but it is fun to watch the "Homer" come out in fans when they have one of the best.

Verlander was pitching no-hitters when lil Clayton was peeing in his diaper.

I believe most would agree that Verlander and Kershaw are outstanding, but, from my experience watching Starting Pitchers for 50+ years I have to say I've seen SP's better than either one of these guys.

Between the two, Kershaw is more of a throwback to pitchers of yesteryear. Nevertheless, I'd take either one of them on any given day, even inspite of Verlander's recent struggles.

You can't go wrong with Kershaw, Verlander or King Felix. They are the best pitchers in the game today. Other pitchers might have a better single season here and there. But if you had to take one pitcher for the next 10 years it would be between those 3.

As far as Kershaw winning the Cy Young award this year, it's certainly possible. He'll be playing for a sub .500 team and might even have a sub .500 win/loss record when it's all said and done (he'll lose a lot of 1-0 games this year), but luckily other variables are considered. If Kershaw has an ERA below 2.00 and leads the league in strikeouts, quality starts, complete games & shutouts, that might be good enough despite a 13-14 record on a team that goes 59-103 with the worst record in the majors.

I can't wait to see what he has today against these Cards. It's going to be interesting.

Actually Hammer, I don't think Kershaw wins it this year but if the Dodgers real off a bunch and he stays hot, it could happen. 5 in a row and a sweep of the Giants:nod:

Yeah, that's a start. Not many in the NL West are hating the Dodgers right now. Hats off to you guys! :hat:

Don't think anyone can say if Kershaw will win the Cy Young Award or not. Harvey, Locke.....even Corbin have a pretty good shot at winning.

All that said...........Kershaw has to be the favorite.

I wouldn't get mad at losing to Verlander, but I do think Kershaw is very deserving. He is having a great year but his wins and losses would not reflect that due to the crappy run support he gets. Every time Kersh starts you know the bullpen is getting a break and he will go deep.

Now to give credit to Verlander. JV has been boss for years and flat out nasty. What is unbelievable to me is it seems like people are forgetting about him this year because of how great Max Scherzer has been.

Verlander is in the AL besa.

I feel like when everything is said and done people will look back and say Kershaw was the best of his time.

Kershaw has to be the favorite. He truly is the best pitcher in the Game right now. He will have a good challenge against the Cardinals tomorrow.

Oh I know I was just admiring both Verlander and Kershaw and what they have done. Of course I want Kershaw to win it and he may have a good shot especially with how the Dodgers are playing now he will get more recognition.

Kershaw will win it, especially since we're a playoff team, not that playoffs matter as much for the Cy Young, but yeah
