Speaking of the minors Gary Brown is looking impressive so far in San Jose, .361/446/.444, 7 BB, 8 SO, 15/5 SB/CS

There's a TON of talent on that SJ squad this year. 5 legit SP prospects, Liles, Brown, Fairley, Anders, Lollis, Dominguez, Joseph. That team is loaded.

It sure is, don't forget Wheeler! I'd like to see Brown hit with a bit more power, obviously I'm not expecting any homers out of him, but I'm sure his sub .100 iso won't last long when we get a larger sample.

I was including Wheeler in the "five legit SP prospects:"

Main
Marte
Heston
Westcott
Wheeler

And Brown went yard last night, BTW. 3-5 and his BA now up to .361

Oh, I didn't see that, my bad. Maybe I should complain about stuff our prospects aren't doing more often just to have them shut me up like Brown did haha. Ok, here goes, Wheeler doesn't throw nearly enough CG shutouts with >15 Ks.

Brandon Belt(LF)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .429.
Travis Ishikawaz(RF)- 2 for 5, 2B, HR(1). BA= .236.

Note where travis was playing.....Giants doing him a favor by increasing his versatility?

I guess our instincts on Belt at first were right...none of us thought he should make the team right out of ST, and when he did our skepticism turned real fast when he played so well that first week. But it seems we had it right the first time.

+1. If Cody Ross wasn't on the DL to start the season, everyone would've been right from the jump. Either way, he is going to be at worst an average major leaguer. The fact that some guy who writes for Yahoo thinks Sabean made a mistake by bringing him up only reinforces my belief that he made the right decision.

I don't think I had much of opinion - I liked that he made the team, because I wanted to see him play. As to whether he was ready or not, he faced a lot of tough lefties and did well enough. The last few games though, against some mediocre arms, he seemed a little lost. But I pretty much chalked that up to the funks all hitters get into from time to time. He just seems too skilled to not adjust to what the pitchers found. And had circumstance been a little different, I'd have no problem keeping on the ML 25.

But if Belt had stayed up, then Burrell would have been forced to the bench, and he's been one of the best Giants hitters this year. So, with Belt in, and searching, you're not putting your best 8 hitters out on the field. And the Giants can't afford to get too far behind the Rockies.

BTW, I wonder why Burrell wasn't moved to 1B at some point during his career? He played some games there as a rookie, and yeah, he was terrible, but it seems like a good position for him to extend his career another few years (playing somewhere in the majors).

Bobby Evans said the team wants him to get comfortable at the corner OF positions, which leads me to believe that they don't feel TOP is going to last the season in LF. TOP's been amazing so far:

.270 .361 .540
.394 wOBA
141 OPS+

Dude is getting it DONE.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of moving Belt away from 1B. A + defensive OF with a Will Clark bat is MUCH more valuable than a +++ defensive 1B with a Will Clark Bat (basically, Will Clark).

Belt seams to have the baseball instincts to be able to switch positions relatively quickly, as well.

BTW...

TOP??? Two Outcome Pat?

THREE outcome Pat (K, BB, HR)....get it STRAIGHT!!:der:

I'm good with Belt returning as a LF, unless TOP continues to rake.

We may need him back at 1st if Huff doesn't turn it around, we are getting the 2009 version of Huff so far.

If I remember correctly, didn't we have the 2009 version of Huff last April as well? Huff is a gamer, give him time...

Huff will be fine. At the end of the year, I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up at .270 .340 .450 or something pretty close. He's a pro.

I agree. All the "experts" keep saying he is over-valued by the Giants because he has had bad years in the past, but that is because he was always on a crap-ass team and his only incentive to play well was for the sake of playing well. He is on a winner now and he has the incentive to perform.

I am far from worried at this point.

Funny. Huff was a topic on Radnich the other day, and most callers were saying Huff would "regress" because he had a "career year" last season.... one sane caller pointed out his good years in the past, and Randnich countered with, "well that was on bad teams - he was just playing for his own numbers."

I made a point that is 100% counter to Radnich?

I must be right.

Thread over.
