Report: NFL asking potential Super Bowl halftime acts to pay to perform

Also did this ever end up happening and what is she paying if so?

I heard the league wanted to do this because they claimed they were given "fame" and exposer to these "artists" by allowing them to perform during halftime and therefore should pay the NFL.... My question is:

"Why do these people NEED exposer in the first place? isn't the reason why they are performing is because they are ALREADY KNOWN AND HUGE NAMES?"

When I heard this I had to laugh at the cheap ass bastards. They're probably worried about the next lawsuit and how many billions they'll have to dish out. Entertainers having to pay to entertain , give me a break. How else you going to pay Roger Goodell 40 million per year to be a jackass.

Once again who do you want to see perform?

How about they play a one-quarter Pro Bowl at halftime; kill the dumb musical act and the dumb Pro Bowl with one stone.

The Superbowl is such a big deal at all times though, with the pregame coverage and the commercials, we as football fans need a few minutes to get up, stretch our legs, reload on beer and food, and let those 30 minutes go before the 2nd half plus post game coverage.

I think the mindless garbage halftime shows actually do us real fans a favor.

The half time shows are ten times better than the pro bowl. The pro bowl should have been axed decades ago, it's horrendous. The worst half time show has been better than any pro bowl, it's not a game it's a farce.

False.

The worst Pro Bowl is like watching practice. I'd still rather watch practice than watch the Rolling Stones literally die on stage surrounded by 300 people who have no idea who they are.

Even if they did play music I like, I'd personally much rather keep the day about football, even if it's just honoring the league's best players in a half-assed flag football game. Shoot, I'd even be alright with an ol' MTV Rock & Jock football game...Throw Katy Perry on the field and watch those knockers bounce as she takes a hand-off from Drew Brees.

As a broncos fan it gives me a chance to go cry and regain composure before the second half of a blowout.

My girlfriend is going to love halftime. She is uninterested in football but loves her some Katy Perry.

Really?!? Do you even know who The Who are and what they represent in the history of R&R?

I am a huge fan of the Who & agree with what you state from a historical perspective. However - it is more a question of what type of show is put on by these aging bands. I don't recall this performance, but a lot of similar ones are letdowns since aging bands can disappoint due to replacement of certain members, fading vocal quality & the appearance that the band is just mailing it in.

Overall - I don't really care about these shows. If people don't like them just treat them like any other halftime & use the time to go to the bathroom, socialize or get something to eat or drink.

I have a lot of friends who have either no interest in football or only a casual interest and who indeed only watch the game for just the commercials and the halftime shows.

And the NFL doesn't need people to watch the entire game. Nielsen television ratings measure every half-hour separately. Even if people only watch the halftime show and part of rather than the whole game, that's even more watchers and thus even more ad revenue.

No, you can't just "hire Betty White" and get the same ratings. Why do you think some performers are superstars that fill stadiums and others have to play for free in a local club? Do you really think people like Madonna don't sell more tickets than some band that no one has ever heard of?

People who watch the Super Bowl watch at parties. Two more people watching the game at the party just for the halftime show doesn't boost the ratings. The same number of TVs end up watching the game. I would say I actually know more people who get up and leave the room to get food/beer than stay to watch the halftime show. The thing is, they don't change the channel or turn the TV off. It stays on even though most people ( at least the ones that I know) don't watch it, and that happens regardless of what is going on at half time.

Sure Madonna sells more tickets than an unknown band if it's just her concert. But if we're talking about an event like the Super Bowl that is sold out every year and that hundreds of millions are going to watch anyway I really don't think it makes much of a difference.
