Back to the old spin-o-rama in the shootout debate? Shouldn't be allowed.

meh. shootout itself is a gimmick.
let them gimmick up the event all they want.

I'm one of those people that likes the shootout, however I dislike the loser points. To me, a win in any fashion should be 2 points (or 1 points since there would be no loser points) and 0 in regulation or OT/SO losses.
To me, the shootout is a reasonable way to decide games. Upset that you're losing games because of it? Bring in guys that are better at it. Some teams just practice it more than others. It's exciting.

you'd feel a lot differently if the pens record was approximately 1-57 like the flyers record is (suck it rangers).. it helps you like the shootout when you have two of the best players in the world at it (letang/crosby)
and IMO your second point is unreasonable because focusing on an element that happens 5-6 times per season (unless youre the panthers, then it's 15-20 times) is a waste of resources
I can see that it's exciting to some but it's not hockey. I haven't played competitive hockey in 20 years and with a month's practice I can occasionally score on any goalie in the league. Should I have the ability to make a team miss the playoffs?
I dole out my consumer cash to see games decided by the best hockey players making the best hockey plays. I don't feel that the shootout is representative of either of those things, whatsoever.
I admit I enjoy some of the moves that guys make but if you made the shootout a full 2-0 split then you just might have guys on the roster who are shootout specialists. Rob Schremp might have an gig job when in no other scenario is he an NHL player. I'd prefer to see the best players decide the game through team play. If they tie the game so be it.
I admit that I am a little biased as a Penguins fan, but I feel like shootouts help grow the game. It's not like one team is given an unfair advantage. Is it because it seems too quick/sudden?
No. It is because it simply isn't hockey. It's someone basically trying to make hockey some kind of one-on-one spectacle when hockey is, at its core, a team game.
I don't know why this shootout attempt is getting so much ridicule. Rask had to make an amazing save to stop it. He didn't "cost his team a win" anymore than Alfreddson or Silfverberg. I mean, it's not like he lost control at the blueline, he was inches away from scoring.
As for the shootout, I don't really care in regular season, and it was pretty damn exciting to watch when I had seats just four rows from the glass. But if they want to switch to a 3-point system, then it should still be the full 3 points for an overtime win.
Well, you know my original stance is Win = 2. That's it.
No ties, play your candy ass until it's over.
