Pretty cool stuff.

But it should not have counted if it went in. The puck goes nearly a yard (that's almost a metre for you Canadians) backwards a he does the spin.

Fun for an all-star game competition... not what I'd want my guy doing with a point up for grabs in a shortened season, or any season for that matter.

does it matter it goes backwards as long as "motion" doesn't stop

If anything it gets good marks from the league - it will get Ottawa more favorable calls from the zebras in the future.

If you believe anything differently, then you don't know how the nhl works

Hmmm... I always thought it had to be forward motion, which it does according to NHL Rule 24.2 which states:
"The puck must be kept in motion towards the opponent’s goal line..."

Though it appears a spin-o-rama exception exists:
"The spin-o-rama type move where the player completes a 360° turn as he approaches the goal, shall be permitted as this involves continuous motion."

Never knew that. Proceeeeeeed, Mr. Daugavins. Proceeeeeed.

Also, why don't more players go "lacrosse shot" on these. Seems like the % scored would be pretty high. According to another rule...
"The lacrosse-like move whereby the puck is picked up on the blade of the stick and “whipped” into the net shall be permitted provided the puck is not raised above the height of the shoulders at any time and when released, is not carried higher than the crossbar."

Watching it live I was like WTF.

Basically though all Tuuka had to do was take the lower section away and he had no chance at getting a goal. He certainly was not gonna roof one from that position.

Wait until he adds the flip at the end. You are going to be blown away.

His future with Cirque du Soleil (or as they call it in Canada - Cirque du Soleil) is now secure.

The lacrosse move isn't used more often because it's essentially a really hard backhand shot - it's near impossible to aim precisely, and since a goalie can take away most of the net, that makes it bad odds when points are on the line.

I'd also like to see stick to skate to stick made legal despite it involving the puck going backwards. It's not like it's that hard to stop if the goalie reacts well enough.

The problem with the move is as soon as he put the blade on the puck at center, I knew what he was going to do. And I'm merely a former goalie.

If Rask had let that one in, I would have ridiculed him something fierce. Good theatrics, but every Pee Wee on earth knows that move.

Fun and all...but really just makes me cringe that much more that the shootout decides games.

what pisses people off more, 3 point games or the shootout?

i hate both, but i think i hate 3 point games more.. should be 3-2-1 W-OTW-OTL

would like.

hate that teams with less overall wins can have more outright points at least this moves it down to just a tie at most...

Or just stop rewarding losses in any way. Regulation/OT win = 2 points. SO Win 1.

Late season games with teams pulling goalies in OT because shootout wins wouldn't help?

Awesome.

still has the key problem of games being worth different amounts.

i'm ok with it being different in that direction though.. only getting 1 point from a win is your own fault, and it only hurts you.. rather than getting 1 point from a loss which hurts everyone chasing you

loss hurting everyone but you

vs

win hurting only you

Well, you know my original stance is Win = 2. That's it.

No ties, play your candy ass until it's over.

Awesome.

I actually think I'd hate a team getting 0 points because they lost a shootout (that is NOT hockey) than I currently hate the loser point.

I'd go with 3 points for a reg or OT win and 2-1 for the shootout winner/loser.
