Yeah, individually he couldn't trademark the words because they are from the bible, tattoo parlor, and whatnot, but he can trademark both the image and that particular collection of works if it's unique to him (i.e. if I put together a book of famous poems that were public domain, I could protect that collection without being an author of any of them). Wonder if he thought of that or not. Oh, and I'm loosely using the terms trademark, copyright, etc. They are, of course, different things.
