Way to go, Kaep! He could rise every year, and as players retire, get pretty darn high. Or he could just do so well to make that big jump.

No. 85 on the list can't even find a job...

I wonder how No. 86-100 feel about that...

Pretty fair placement for a guy who took the league by storm but only started halfway through the season. Too bad he didn't get that play off in time that would have let him walk into the endzone and maybe win the SB... cause then he might have been top 50.

I don't know why anyone on planet earth pays attention to these stupid lists. Power rankings, Best players, best QBs: they're completely worthless, but people eat this stuff up like it's KFC.

I wish we had gotten the last one to Crabtree, instead. Last thing I need is another person saying it was him as a running QB, new style of offense (read-option), all the playcall/OL/Roman/Harbaugh, or Ravens' fault/tiredness/age.

Plus, getting it on fourth down would have been pretty sweet, given it's do-or-die, even-more-clutch factor to the win then a designed run on first down. IMO.

It makes for fun discussion to pass the time, but I could care less about the rankings. A similar list that the MLB network put out for this year had Buster Posey at #21 out of 100. I guess being an excellent catcher, NL Comeback Player of the Year + NL MVP in the same season(!), and 2 time World Series winner doesn't warrant a higher spot on the list.

Look at who's number 7 on the list. Too high in my opinion, but I could be wrong. This isn't a future's poll, either. (I know there have been a few of those, mainly for teams, not players.)

For years I have argued that the players aren't aware enough of what's going on in a given year in the league, and their say in the Pro Bowl is no more valid than the fans. The top 100 list once again reinforces my belief.

Unless anyone believes that Dennis Pitta, Heath Miller, Anquan Boldin, Jacoby Jones et al are all better than Jimmy Graham. . .

The issue with the list is it should be who were the top 100 players in 2012 so that way you have more clear standard when it comes to placing players.

But the list is supposed to be going into the 2013 season which jacks everything up.

Going into the 2013 season there is no way I would put Kaepernick at 81 but if you're placing him based on 2012 than 81 isn't a bad spot considering he didn't play a full season.

Jones should not be on the list.

Jones should not be on the list.

Neither should Pitta, Boldin or Heath Miller. There are plenty of guys on there who shouldn't be. But players are swayed by press and hilights just like fans are. Except players probably get to see a lot fewer games than serious fans.

Here's a fun task, count the RBs and the OL.

I'll agree, but Jones was obvious. You could debate the other 3.

I guess. The only debate I see for Pitta/Boldin/Pollard is that they played for the champs and had some signature moments in the playoffs.

No you can't. This a league with nearly 1700 players. There is no way Miller, Boldin or Pitta are in the top 6% of players in the league.

Only 6 OL made the list. Is Dennis Pitta better than all but 6 OL in the league? Boldin and Miller better than all but 5?

So I decided to do a complete positional breakdown of their list because. . . why not?

QB = 14

RB = 12

WR = 18 (No Michael Crabtree, but Jacoby Jones, Anquan Boldin are)

TE = 8 (No Jimmy Graham)

So a quick tally: More than half (52) of the top 100 players in the league player a skill position on offense (QB, RB, WR or TE).

C = 1 (Max Unger)

OG = 1 (Logan Mankins)

OT = 4 (Staley, T. Williams, D. Brown and J. Thomas)

58 of the top 100 play offense.

DE = 8 (Cam Wake is listed as a LB)

DT = 5

ILB = 7

4-3 OLB = 3

3-4 OLB = 6 (Aldon Smith rated higher than Von Miller)

CB = 7 (including Chuck Woodson, who is apparently one of the 7 best CBs in the league, Patrick Peterson was the best, Sherman was only the 50th best player in the league)

S = 4 (Earl Thomas, BERNARD POLLARD!!!!!!, Polamalu and Goldson

ST = 0 (Unless you want to include Patrick Peterson here).

So I have quite a few issues with this list.

There are apparently 2 players who don't have positions, because it's sortable by position, and that's what I used (I broke down LB, OL and DL more specifically), and my list only adds up to 98. I have triple checked. Maybe I looked at numbers too long.
