ESPN MLB Craig Gentry excels in his role

The above article is about Gentry's contributions and what a great job he's doing, which he is. We all see that. Wash then goes on to refer to Gentry as one of his ponies and says he's not going to play his ponies when he had his stallions available. :L

What stallion exactly should Gentry be giving way to??? Murphy??? Who can't seem to find any consistency at the plate, doesn't have near the speed or defensive prowess Gentry does?? Or Snyder who can only seem to hit lefties and has a high k rate??

This is just further proof of Wash's inability to properly evaluate his team and it's players. If anybody has been a stallion during this awful stretch it's been Gentry. I'm sick of his stupidity.

So you take that quote as a reason to bash Wash, yet Wash is the guy that has put Gentry out there "six of the last 8 games" which in reality, if I'm not mistaken, should be "6 of the last 6 games". The rotation has been Josh in LF, Cruz in RF, and Gentry in CF except when Cruz has been out or Gentry gets an off day like everyone else.

It was a dumb thing to say. Again I ask, what stallion should Gentry be giving way to?

It was a stupid quote, but judging by his playing time I'm not sure Gentry isn't the stallion.

Did you read the article? I'm pretty sure gentry is exactly who he was referring to. This dumbass still thinks his best outfield is Murphy Hamilton cruz.

Then why was Snyder given the nod over Murph last night? I think Wash considers Cruz and Hamilton his studs and the other three as the ponies.

He won't start Murphy against a lefty. Gentry has proven he can hit both.

I think Gentry will slowly start pulling playing time away from Murphy against RHPs, but Murphy will probably start against a majority of the tough RHPs

Also I believe you will start seeing more Torrealba and less Moreland in the 2nd half as the temperature rises

YT's playing time won't necessaraily cut into Napoli's but since Napoli can DH or play 1B, then it will be Moreland taking a seat in favor of Napoli or Young at 1B

I think Murph will be trade bait at the deadline. And any scenario that sees Torrealba with more PT than less gets a big thumbs down from me.

For once jaar and I are mostly on the same page. That said, there will be a need for more YT time at catcher when the temperature gets close to 100 on a daily basis. It does seem like he's beginning to figure out how to call a game. Now if only he weren't such a lazy fuck.

I really like Gentry a lot but he really isn't an every day player yet. He is getting close but Wash manages to get the most out of him by picking and choosing when he plays and against who he hits. To me that is really the optimum set up. However, when it comes time to play for keeps down the stretch and in the playoffs I don't want to see Gentry playing except as a pinch runner/defensive replacement.

Who would you rather see play in Gentry's place?

As much as we would like to see it, Gentry is not an everyday player and as kneejerk as you can be, you would be the first to raise hell the first time he went 0-15.

i have to agree with you, another stupid move, imo, now that hamilton is out why in the world would you put your second worst hitter in the game who contributes nothing offensively (torrealba) to the team? napoli has had plenty of rest the last week. you need the rest of the lineup to step up when hamilton is out. and it's hard to do that when Wash doesnt put his best lineup out there. nap is hot right now and his pop is needed without josh in the lineup. i guess wash is trying to win tonight 3-1. DUMB move, imo

Why couldn't Gentry be an everyday player? The more ABs he gets the better I would think he could be.

I'm really not knee jerk. I'm actually more level headed than plenty on here. Look at my posts when LA signed CJ and I was telling everyone to calm the eff down.

So you don't want to see Gentry getting any playing time at all down the stretch except as a late-inning defensive replacement or pinch runner? Really? Might I ask then who the every day 3rd OF for the Rangers will be? David Murphy, who struggles worse against lefties than Gentry does against righties? You really want him playing every single game? Brandon Snyder? Leonys Martin? Which one of those deserves to start over Gentry against lefties? You make some incredibly outlandish and extreme statements. Gentry might not be an everyday player, but he's getting awfully close. He's far and away the team's best stolen base threat, he's been making very solid contact consistently, both against lefties and the few times he's faced righties, and he's only getting better. I'd say he's been earning more playing time lately than many others on the team. If his development continues at this rate, I see absolutely no reason why he couldn't be trusted as a starting CF batting near the bottom of the order.
