As Bear fan, I have no clue as to what to expect from either side of the ball.
I presume our O will Improve over time. Our D shouldn't fall too far w/ the remaining vets.
I predicted you guys to win the Div last year. But I'm sticking w/you this yr. Liked your draft.
Just would like your thoughts on week 1.

Geno Atkins vs Kyle Long, last year the Steelers put rookie David DeCastro against Atkins and he tossed him around like a rag doll.

Hard to know what that Bears team will look like with the new coaching staff and the new offense. The Bears obviously have a lot of talent and I'm glad we get them early rather than late. Interestingly, we've been better on the road the last two seasons, so home-field is probably not as big a factor. Too early to call at this time, but should be a good opener.

I think it is up to how much your O-line has improved over time. Matt Forte is still there right? He should do well, if the Bears pound the ball they should do well, if Jay has to do the happy feet dance, then we'll do well.

Treastmans offense is going to confuse the hell out of us for a half...it will be something like 17-3 or 20-10 at the half...We will try to come back in the second but I think the Bears win this say 27-23 week 1....We come home beat Pitt, beat the packers beat Cleveland in Cleveland and beat NE at home...We will be 4-1 after 5 loss against the Bears.....

you heard it here 1st...We drop week 1 WHICH GETS THEIR ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!

Geno is tough task for anybody, yet alone a rook. Don't know if Long will start ( but I expect he will ). Still haven't a clue to what our O-line will look like . Only Bushrod & Garza are locks right now. And Garza's status might change.

Just think Forte will do his damage in the passing game. Garner had 90 catches 1 year under Trestman. And JMO I think Forte is a better reciever than Garner.

:lol:I hope it works out that way. I think the Ds will keep it close thoughout the game. I doubt our O will be gelling week 1.

Yahoo has him no.1 on the depth chart, the Bears website doesnt even have their depth chart up yet (weird). ITA the Bears O-Line is under construction right now. What theyre gonna see is the Bengals rushing 4 fresh lineman and cover 2 and then another safety or Adam Jones running around back there, so it's gonna be a tough day for Jake who can get very frustrated if someone hits him very hard.

Week one, I'm fairly sure the defenses will dominate. Cutler can be frustrated by a strong pass rush, but no more so than Dalton. I say first to 20 wins.

Long was working with the 1s in the few mini camps he attended. Alternating w/ Slauson @ the left & right guard spots. Just got to see how he does when the pads come on.
I think Trestman will use a short quick passing game to try to offset the rush. How that works , who knows right now?

I hate to over analyze things, but here goes. The Bears should improve on their 28th ranking in pass protection. Bushrod and Webb are both average, which is an upgrade over Carimi who was horrific at RT. Slauson is an upgrade over Rachal and Brown at LG as well. Garza is a top 15 pass blocker over the middle. The only potential liability will be at RG, where either the rookie Long or Williams will start. Louis was a top 10 pass blocker, and neither Long or Williams will be able to fill that void. Williams was actually really good in pass protection during his 2 starts, so if Long isn't ready by week 1 he could get the nod. If so, Chicago should at least be an average pass blocking unit.

Expect when playing Cincinnati. Atkins usually lines up at LDT, which will be directly across from the one potential pass blocking liability in Chicago's OL. They'll likely try to bring help with Garza on most snaps, as Slauson should able to handle Peko by himself. But the problem with that is it's going to leave Bushrod and Webb both on islands against Johnson and Dunlap, and that isn't even accounting for any extra blitzers. It makes them very predictable with Garza always helping the RG, meaning we'll be able to see where to send extra blitzers.

Great post. To start off Louis was our best OL man the last couple yrs. He will be missed by me. Nasty guy.
I'm not much of stat guy, but find it hard to believe that 4 teams had a worse pass blocking line than ours. :lol:Garza's knees are failing him more & more each year.Which usually shows up in run blocking(pulling) , not a fan of him. Hope Kromer can find a better replacement.
I like the addition of Bushrod , Yeah PFF said he's average, but NO threw the ball as much as anybody.
If you look @ Webbs & Bushrods stats according to that site. You'll see Bushrod is the better. I don't visit the site , just recall from what I've read on various boards. Seems they had equal stats, but NO threw the ball 200 more times than the Bears.
I really have no clue to what the O-Line will look like day1. But I started a thread on the Bears about it.
My starting 5 would Busrod, Webb, Slauson, Long, Scott.
As far as the tackles go , I believe Bushrod can hold his own. Webb gets beat easily by speed rushers. That's why I'd like Scott there.
Love the conversation. All the boards seem slow.

wow, it almost looks like Dalton is waiting for the defense to get next to his arm so he can cock it back and give them the ball.

Posted this thread before I saw the team in pads. But after 2 preseason games. Long is a beast. He got bullrushed once due to poor technique, but the QB still got the pass off. He has dominated every body he's played against. Seems he plays w/ his old mans mind set. I know Geno is a special player. But I'm starting to like our chances VS him alot more.
I think the game will be decided by turn overs.

There is absolutely 0 chance Long can block Atkins. Just not going to happen. If you double him all game....maybe, but then you just leave your tackles 1 on 1 with Johnson and Dunlap. Cutler will be hit......a lot.
