Would you rather have him than Johnson?

Freeman, IMO, would cost us a 6th rounder. I'm just not sure he's much better than what we have.

I wouldn't. Who cares about the backup that much? Besides, he is not going to be happy being a backup, which is why he is requesting a trade. Just hang with what we have for now and see where it gets us.

Freeman is a free agent this offseason, why trade for him? I think he ends up in Arizona, Minnesota or Jacksonville.

Other than Arizona, those other two teams have a chance and getting a top college QB. I can't see Arizona wasting a draft pick on him unless its a 6th rounder.

I don't think he will cost much more than a 6th if any. Why not take a chance on a guy who showed 2 years ago he has talent.

If it were the offseason, I'd have traded a low draft pick for him. Let him and Dalton battle it out. Per PFF he has played better than Dalton so far this season (but not by much). Dalton was ranked 1 spot higher than him last season.

It's all a moot point though now. He'd be coming in a quarter of the way into the season and be a FA in the offseason. I don't see anyone trading for him at this point, except maybe Jacksonville.

Backup QB is one of the most important positions on a team.

You're nuts.

Not on our team, because if Dalton gets hurt we are FUBAR'd and I don't think Freeman would make any difference as the backup, so the point in moot.

If you had a decent backup you wouldn't be. That's kinda the point. I don't know that Freeman is even a decent backup. He's not a good QB.

Please list the number of contending teams that have a backup good enough to lead their team to the playoffs...

If Manning goes down, Denver is screwed.

If Flacco goes down, Baltimore is screwed

If Wilson goes down, Seattle is screwed

If Brady goes down, N.E. is screwed

If Big Ben goes down...oh wait, forgot...it really wouldn't be much of a drop off in this case....

But, the point being...not many teams have a backup that is readily capable to carry a team into the playoffs if the starter is hurt.

So you're saying lets remain status quo.

He wouldn't be a good starting QB as seen in Tampa, so if we had to rely on Freeman, we are screwed still.

If any team has to rely on their backup QB, they are pretty much screwed.

My point is, this league doesn't even have enough quality starting QB's more less trying to find a good backup QB to make up for the loss of the starter.

Is Palmer in the last year of his contract? I can't see AZ bringing in Freeman as an upgrade. Palmer has played fairly well so far this year.

Dalton is none of those QBs. Not even close. This team would easily make the playoffs with Freeman behind center just as it will with Dalton.

The question is if Freeman is worth a 6th rounder. Is he that much better than Johnson?

They would resign Tebow and go 9-7 and lose in the first round of the playoffs...
their going to choke anyhow, might as well have someone to blame it on, it could happen.

If Flacco goes down, Baltimore is screwed
Not true, Taylor may not be as experienced, but he is a much more exciting athlete than Flacco.

If Wilson goes down, Seattle is screwed
can't argue with you there.

If Brady goes down, N.E. is screwed
Ryan Mallett will pick up where Brady leaves off, just as Brady picked up where Bledsoe left off, he's a pretty darn good QB.

The last few drafts gave us the following players in the 6th round

Rex Burkhead
Cobi Hamilton
Boom Herron
Ryan Whalen
Dez Briscoe
Bernard Scott
Trent Morgan

Of those players, only Dez Briscoe was very good. He was an all pro that we should all be monumentally butt-hurt about losing to TB..... Errrr... Nevermind.

I'd trade a 6th for him if it were the offseason -- But given it's week 4 and he doesn't know the playbook, I don't really see any value in picking him up.
