Beckham by year:

2009: .270/.347/.460, 106 OPS+, 2.1 WAR in 430 PA
2010: .252/.317/.378, 87 OPS+, 0.7 WAR in 498 PA
2011: .230/.296/.337, 70 OPS+, 1.2 WAR in 557 PA
2012: .234/.296/.371, 80 OPS+, 0.8 WAR in 582 PA
2013: .267/.322/.372, 89 OPS+, 0.8 WAR in 408 PA
2014: .228/.271/.360, 75 OPS+, 0.9 WAR in 371 PA

Even for a middle infielder, his bat's been very mediocre. Or even give Micah Johnson a shot? And speaking of which, what happened to his SB numbers? He stole 84 bases (caught 26 times) in 2013. This year, he's only stolen 20 bases in 92 games between AA/AAA. Was it because Kannapolis is very aggressive on the basepaths? He did steal 61 bases there in only 77 games (he stole 22 in 49 games in Birmingham that same year).

At what point do they stop trotting Viciedo, Beckham and De Aza out there? I find it hard to believe they don't have better options. I still like Semien a lot.

ventura is a robotic manager afraid to make any real decisions. I doubt he makes any. we are stuck watching 230 hitters the rest of the season and 2 of them are horrible defenders and base runners (viciedo and de aza). sox management and some fans are still brainwashed into thinking the beckham is something special. it is pretty obvious he isn't. im a semian fan as well. his numbers aren't great but he seems to get hits when u need them while the 3 bozos u mentioned fold

yeah, you'd think people would get the memo after the guy put up a ~80 OPS+ over 2000+ PA. Especially considering Beckham's turning 28 in September. Semien's struggled, but he's only got 252 PA at the major league level. His 72 OPS+ is right up there with Beckham this year, and Semien's only 23.

I have to admit I stopped paying attention to the minor league system yrs ago. too many cant miss prospects turned into absolute busts. joe borchard, josh fields, jerry owens, brian Anderson, ryan Sweeney, and the list went on. every single one of them sucked.

Can't say I blame you. Sweeney was decent (IMO) in 08-09, but yeah, other than that, it's a very underwhelming group of players.

beckham's OPS was pretty good young also, not much consolation there.

Too bad 2009 looked like an outlier years ago. Seems like the White Sox may have rushed him, he did only play 59 games in the minors prior to reaching the majors. 14 games in A ball, 38 in AA, and 7 in AAA. Even as a college player, he probably would have benefited from some time in AAA.

supposedly greg walker changed his swing in the spring of 2010. Kenny Williams and walker nearly got in a fight when Kenny found out

Believe me, I know, I have this asshole on my sim league team. It's funny, when I drafted him I was completely rebuilding and after his rookie year the vision was that he would be a key building block and be hitting at the top of my lineup when my team was ready to contend again. Instead I won the World Series last year with him batting 8th (I'm the Brewers so that's as low as he can go), the weak link in my lineup and the only guy with an OPS below .800 for the season. Funny how shit plays out sometimes.

People hated on me when I compared Abreu to Trout as an offensive player. Let's look at the stats as they have developed further.

Trout - 290 AVE, 384 OBP, 567 SLG, 34 HR, 107 RBI, 14 Stolen Bases, 76 BB, 168 K
Abreu - 322 AVE, 384 OBP, 604 SLG, 35 HR, 102 RBI, 2 Stolen Bases, 44 BB, 121 K

Keep in mind the Angels have a vastly better team and more danger in their offensive starting lineup. It is much easier to pitch around Abreu than Trout.

Abreu's 27 and you're referring to him as a 'kid.' Where do we draw the line on what's considered young in baseball years?

This is also Trout's worse season....Abreu's 2014 isn't as good as Trout's 2013 for instance.

How old is Abreu again? Trout?

That's the main reason you're being ridiculed, cupcake.

It's his FIRST year in the big leagues. You know, the best damn league in the world. The league he was in is no different than if he was in AAA for a few years out of college. Maybe in a year or 2 you can say he is not a young player, but this year he is a up and comer for sure.

Just because it's someone's first year doesn't mean they're young. There's a huge difference between playing your rookie year as a 20-year-old than as a 27-year-old.

Stop being a homer.

So if a player is 38 and makes his MLB debut, do you consider him a young player because "it's his first year?"

Think about your logic there for a minute, and you'll realize why it makes no sense.

Because 27 is still relatively young for a baseball player anyway and coupled with the fact that it is his first year.

Would it make you feel better if I just flat out said he is just as good of a hitter as Trout?

If it is easier to pitch around him then why is Trout still walking so much more in even a down year?
