Me too, might as well give 21 to Landon Collins.
Joe T kept the guys together during the strike in 82. Lost a tooth blocking, was an absolute monster in 83. Won the franchise their first SB. If he doesn't make that hustle play against Bokamper, the Riggins run doesn't happen.
Some unproven rookie that the coaching staff and scouts didnt even want, gets to wear 7? FOH
It's on the Skins to protect these guys numbers, but Haskins should of had enough respect for Joe and the history of this franchise to not ask for it.

Comparing Taylor (and what might have been) to Theismann and what was is ludicrous. Maybe everyone didn't like Joe but I bet he is more popular than you think. He sure did a hell of a lot for the Redskins.
Do you really think Joe was going to tell Danny he would like his number to stay semi-retired. Homerism? You don't like him being a fan of the team he played for?
I think it would have been a winning gesture for Haskins to say I respect the history and he could have been the NEWEST No. 8.![]()
Cmon man - everyone doesn't think alike. Whether justified or not I know quite a few folks who don't really care for Theismann - so be it. I don't care how long Taylor was on the team (& can't believe that you simply categorize him as a "what might have been" - he did a lot in his short time on the team). I respect your opinion, but it is not mine - no big deal.
Oh well - like someone said above - who really cares - it is just a jersey # - the memories for you, me & others will always remain regardless.
I was not saying Taylor's number shouldn't get the same treatment as Theismann. I am okay with it being semi-retired. I was refuting the idea that Taylor meant more to the Redskins than Theismann.
Whether you or anyone else like Joe means nothing. A number doesn't make the player and I bet if you are like me and you see certain numbers such as 56 Hauss, 72 Manley …. etc. Your thought goes to that person if they had an impact on you. In the end it doesn't matter.
I guess I'm the oddball - I really don't care what number anyone plays with. Give him 177.6 for all I care - just as long as he plays well and fits. It's the name on the jersey; not the number tha matters.
