Is it the right decision for the Broncos to start Peyton this week against the Colts or do we have to wait and see how the game plays out? What if Peyton gets hurt in the 1st quarter and is lost for the season? Will that make starting Peyton the wrong decision?

That's not a fair comparison IMO. Obviously starting Manning is the right decision because he gives you the best chance to win.

But again, isn't the goal winning Super Bowls? So if Manning wins more with the Broncos than Luck wins with the Colts, how could it possibly be the right decision?

Because Manning winning with the Broncos doesn't mean that he would have done it with the Colts.

I think this is a fine example of QBs being credited too much for championships. Which is sort of what Irsay was getting at, instead of building a well rounded team, they put all their eggs in Manning's basket and expected him to make EVERYTHING happen. And they want to avoid that with Luck.

This is a good argument and frankly the only one that could make me change my mind.

Look, I'm not saying that's definitely what's going to happen, I'm just saying that if it does, how can you say it was the right decision? Isn't the point to win Super Bowls? Irsay made what I think was the best decision at the time, but making the best decision at the time doesn't mean it will always turn out to be the right decision with the value of hindsight.

If Manning has more success in his few years with the Broncos than Luck has in his career with the Colts, then I don't see how you can call it the right decision. But like I said, we won't know that for a long time.

Very easily.

Just because Peyton might win a Super Bowl with the Broncos doesn't mean he would have won another one with the Colts.

Two different teams. Two different situations.

As usual, Irsay needs to STFU.

Some call it a good argument...others call it common sense.

Ok, but a counter argument could be this: if Denver was capable of putting together a Super Bowl champion team around Manning, who's to say the Colts couldn't have as well?

I don't see how this makes Irsay a douchebag. Any media person can take a quote out of context in order to make a story about nothing.

Do you really think Irsay "regrets" letting Peyton go and drafting Luck???

Jim Irsay needs to chill - Andrew Luck has actually been better his first two years than Peyton was(whether Andrew Luck becomes better in the future is another story) - he should be thankful for what Peyton did for the team and the city

I don't see the big deal. He OBVIOUSLY wasn't criticizing Peyton. He was criticizing the organization for never building the right team around him. He's basically saying they squandered Peyton's talent... which they did.

Irsay said nothing wrong. For all the stats and and awards Peyton has he has been abysmal in the playoffs. Most playoff loses for an NFL QB in history. With all those 12 win teams one superbowl.

This......I don't know why people are taking these quotes out of context. It's CLEARLY a cheap shot at Bill Polian and not Peyton Manning.

You guys are right and Tony Dungy is wrong?

"Without Peyton, there would be no Lucas Oil Stadium. This team would be playing in L.A. right now. I don't understand Jim saying this.”
-- Tony Dungy, on Colts owner Jim Irsay's criticism of Peyton Manning

I'm still not seeing where he criticized Peyton? However, I can see how and why it was taken out of context. This week is probably one of the biggest regular season games of all time. I willing to bet it gets Super Bowl-esque ratings.

why do so many people jump at the chance to take things out of context and run away with it? I suppose so we can have something to talk about on message boards?

Yes. Even with the potential hindsight that he won with another team, it doesn't make it the wrong move.

What if they would have kept him and traded Luck and some other organization went on to 15 years of great football with another team and Manning didn't win another SB? QBs dont win or lose SBs by themselves, the overhaul that the Colts are in the midst of was the right choice.

There is a large majority of people who have a hard time grasping that concept...
