Report: Group led by Derek Jeter and Jeb Bush win auction for Miami Marlins

The Miami Marlins might have some famous new owners.

According to Bloomberg's Scott Soshnick, the group led by former New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and former Florida governor and presidential hopeful Jeb Bush have won the bidding for the Marlins:

A group led by former Florida governor Jeb Bush and former New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter have won the auction for the Miami Marlins baseball team, according to a person with knowledge of the deal.

The person requested anonymity because the sale contract hasn't been signed. The person declined to say how much the group paid for the team, which is owned by New York art dealer Jeff Loria.

How fitting. One can't go to his left, and the other can't go to his right.

But what an effort!!! WOW!!!!!!!

and no one can do the unnecessary jump throw like this guy!
They should have put a couple seats directly behind second base at Yankee Stadium, so every night the Yankee fans could get a boner over watching their shortstop field a ball in fair territory and then crash into the stands.

I will give Jeter credit for that catch, it was a good one...

I do wonder how the Yankees and their fans feel about this.

I'm sure the Yankees would have liked to have Jeter as piece of their future marketing plans. While this doesn't completely eliminate those opportunities, I'd think it significantly limits them.

I can't speak for all Yankee fans obviously but I don't like it. Regardless of the bad defensive plays you post he is and will always be one of the most iconic players to ever play the game and certainly one of the most iconic Yankees to ever put on the uniform. He's up there with Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Mantle. Part of the reason for that is that he never left.

That all changes if he becomes part owner of the Marlins, he is no longer exclusively our guy.

It was a tough play, but it was completely overblown in terms of how "great" it was, because Jeter. David Wright actually jumped into the stands to catch a foul ball later that season, but it's not talked about like Jeter's catch in fair territory.
