The Cowboys are going to have to do some creative and dramatic salary cap decisions to resign Dez. I highly doubt Dez will go into next season without a new contract, especially if he thinks Jerry is going to franchise him after his loyalty and taking a HUGE career risk. But should Dallas keep restructuring and pushing back the inevitable to keep him?

We all know he is immensely talented and that TD catch today was absolutely incredible. But for a team that throws a lot he is currently 22nd in receiving yards behinds the likes of Julian Edelmann, Brian Hartline, and Harry Douglas. Even Pierre Garcon has 250 yards on him. Dez has 908 yards after 14 games. Would you, as the Cowboys GM, break the bank to resign him at 65, 75 million knowing that he hasnt put up huge numbers? Would you let him go to someone like the Rams who could give you a 1st round pick for him and pick up a young player at a low salary instead. Curious to hear what you guys say. 75 million for the 22nd ranked WR in the NFL on a pass heavy team (with some attitude issues on top)?

If Jerry were smart, he would trade him next year, but he won't he will overpay like he did for Joey Galloway, Roy Williams, and Miles Austin. Death by Jerrah.

No, and it's not because I don't think he is good nor super-talented. I'm just thinking with a Steelers-like mentality. Has he earned a big payday? If Mike Wallace didn't, why has Dez? The only guys you should be thinking long-term with are quarterbacks. Romo may not have deserved his contract, but at least it's more understandable to extend him than to extend someone like Dez unless he has absolutely earned it like a Megatron or Fitz. But based on Jerry's shit track record, Dez will get a big payday just like Austin.

I'm sorry put me on the sign Dez list, I'm not going to let him be the sacrificial lame for the salary cap. Dez and now Murray are the only playmakers we have on this team. Romo is the contract that is now hurting this team. I like Romo it's no way he should have got the contract he did. He should have gotten a Schuab like contract or had to play out this season. This has got to be one of the 5 worse decisions he's made since he's owned the team.

If we let Dez walk then who's our number 1 wr? You can try and draft one if you trust Jerry. The only reason we got Dez is because he had character issue. The Cowboys have Developed Dez for the most part now you go and let some other team reap the benefits no way. Dez and Murray are the 2 main positives of this game.

I understand where you are coming from, but this is my thing. Has Dez earned that contract? Not even close. He's been more headache than problem-solver. He's a poor route runner that has hurt Romo as much as he's helped him over the years. He's had huge fumbles, drops, or failure to prevent interceptions that have hurt this team over the years. This is not to mention his attitude. Walking off the field today was yet another poor decision. Randy Moss and Bill Belichick got trashed for it so Dez should definitely be heavily scrutinized for it. The Steelers wouldn't put up with Wallace's crap and we shouldn't put up with Dez's crap. He's no doubt one of top 5 most talented receivers in the NFL, but he has not earned a big payday yet.

I agree what he did today was wrong. I do believe he's earned a new contract actually. What kinda contract did Victor Cruz get? in other words Dez is that type of player not top 5, but certainly top 10. Everyone's saying he can't run routes. I think that has just become a popular thing to say. Dez was open all night tonight. Romo missed him what 4 or 5 times? Looks like his routs and his coming back to the ball look good to me tonight. He got open in every way a wr could. I think the problem is Romo hasn't been willing to pull the trigger. Dez gave us a taste tonight of what he can do win given a chance.:suds:

Great post....agree with everything except him being a top five wide receiver for all the reasons you mentioned. Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, AJ Green, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown, Desean Jackson, Victor Cruz, etc. are all better than Dez from a statistically point of view and from a teammate point of view as well as they are not boneheads who can't hold on to the ball. The Dez experiement is over. He needs to be traded. We are stuck with Romo...Romo the wide receiver killer...

So lets add Dez to the Witten, Ware, Romo, Austin, Hatcher, Spencer list and continue to sign practice players instead of getting real talent to rebuild while we suck. :wtf2:

Cruz is not a headache like Wallace or Dez. He did start off bad with rock hands but he has earned that contract and he's even lived up to it by steady performing well despite Eli's shitty season. Besides, Cruz was instrumental in a Super Bowl run, so he gets way more leeway than Dez.

If you break the bank on Dez, who may or may not ever grow up, the Cowboys will never get out of salary cap hell.

Really Antonio Brown. No way. Can't debate the 2 Johnsons. D. Jax, Cruz, and Dez are probably peas in a pot from a talent aspect.

Yeah cause Dez sure lacks talent. I'm with you on the young movement, but Dez can be one of the bldg blocks to a young team. I don't get the Dez hate. :L

Great teams and organizations don't spend a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$ on WR's.

That's hard to refute, better draft well. I don't agree with Twist on Dez, but I do agree with him that if we trade Dez....we'd better get a kings ransom. Like what we gave up for R. Williams 2 1st and 1 3rd.

I don't think there is another owner as dumb as Jerry, so I doubt that happens.
