According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Garcia will interview for the quarterbacks coach position with the Rams. The vacancy has arisen due to the expected promotion of Frank Cignetti to the position of offensive coordinator.

Garcia, who threw for more than 43,000 yards in 17 seasons as a pro quarterback, drew positive reviews for his work with Montreal. As a player, Garcia’s biggest NFL success came with the 49ers. Garcia also played for the Browns, Lions, Eagles (twice), and Buccaneers.

The Rams seem to be preparing for an open competition at the quarterback position, with injured starter Sam Bradford getting a chance at reclaiming the job after his second ACL tear in two seasons. First, he’ll have to restructure a contract that pays him nearly $13 million in 2015.

I favor that hire. Garcia knows the position and maybe he'll get Sammie to throw deep for a change.

I too am in favor, somebody that has actually played the position at the NFL level and played it very well. Correct me if my feeble mind is wrong but wasn't Garcia a lefty and if so does that pose any problems with mechanics or teachings to a right handed QB?

No Garcia was right handed.... Steve Young is the former Niner QB that was a lefty.

Even as a player, Garcia seemed like the type of guy who would end up as a coach. He was always on the sidelines talking to his guys about what was right/wrong, studying the formations, psyching guys up etc...
I think he'd be a great influence for Sam and the O as a whole.

Since he was a mobile QB, this could signal the Rams' intent to bring in a mobile/dual threat QB.

It would depend on Garcia going further than just an interview, but maybe Hundley is high on their board (and is the 1st QB they have a realistic shot at in this draft). I could also be reading too much into this, lol.

BTW, Garcia has worked with Shane Carden and Mark Sanchez in the past.

Apparently, Hundley is training with Garcia, Warner, and Phillip Rivers.

I think he will be a good hire for the team. He has been pushing for this type of job for a long time. When he was on the 49ers, he really did overachieve when you look at his physical tools. He QBd at small San Jose State and he had to go to Canada to play ball as no one in the NFL would touch him. Bill Walsh really liked him and brought him in to play QB for the 49ers. He comes on our local radio radio station every now and then to discuss the QB position. He communicates well. Also, his father is a long time football coach. I don't think the team will go wrong with that hire.

Anyone else think that Garcia still has some left in the tank? And if Sammie does get hurt again, maybe he can put the pads on? :suds:

I'll take Garcia on the staff.

Could it be true? :omg: I've only wanted this for 6 years now. If they can't see the writing on the wall (Kaepernick, Wilson), then I don't know what to say...

This is what I've been saying... I have a feeling they are going to get Hundley in the 2nd round. Question is.. Will they freak out and trade up or take the best QB that's there?

I don't think the Rams are drafting a quarterback this year. Unless they loose Sam.
