Apparently he also bought some stock in a local beef stick factory...

Blues' President Davidson upset at free agent waiver process

I've got to say I agree with him. I understand the reasoning, but in the salary cap age as long as the transaction is done before the trade deadline the player shouldn't have to go through any waivers at all. If you have to keep the waiver process, then only teams below you in the standings should be able to put in a claim. It just seems like there's a better way to do it.

It's Kyle fricken Wellwood. How the hell can anyone be mad about loosing Kyle Wellwood?

Outside of the St. Louis all-you-can-eat buffet owners of course.

Armstrong did all the legwork, he hunted these guys down, worked out what numbers fit into his cap situation, got his lawyers involved, talked to the player's agents, did all the work, got these guys excited and interested in playing in St. Louies... then SJ and Nashville, who had every opportunity to sign these guys themselves, came in and swooped them up.

Wellfed is softer than a marshmallow, both in the way he plays and with his double chins, but Svatos has 30 goal potential. The Blues have lots of injuries up front, and needed to fill holes.

Svatos I can understand but San Jose is doing St. Louis a favor by taking Wellwood.

I understand what he is saying. The Blues invest the time and effort into the player just to have them plucked by teams with better records. I wouldn't be against including the team that signs the player in the waiver order, that way only the teams below them get a shot at the guy.

I wonder if JD signed Wellwood just to be a dick, knowing full well someone would take him out of spite.

I think Doug Wilson is the one trying to be a dick in this situation. Afterall it was Thornton and the Sharks who injured Perron, one of the primary guys St. Louis is trying to replace.

Well the joke's on them, they need playoff grit and toughness, not a walking twinkie.

I am surprised that all 29 teams got a crack at the incoming player.
Figured it would just be the teams lower in the standings.

seriously though... watch for JD to offer sheet an RFA from Nashville and SJ this summer.

Me too. I'm trying to think of the reason the rule was created as is. Not a clue.

In the 80's there was a player or two that the Oilers would bring across the pond, just for the playoffs. Then he would go back to Europe until next spring. Can't remember his name.

Randy Gregg did it in 82 (played the season in Japan)
Raimo Summanen in 84
Esa Tikkanen in 85

It's still odd that all 29 teams get a crack, instead of just the ones lower in the standings.
(not that i would have been much of a difference for the Oilers)

Ever since Coach Renney made that crack about "not being surprised when the Oil make the playoffs" they've lost 12 of 14 games. I hope Katz keeps the tag team of Lowebellini together forever (just like Rick Astley)

Davidson is pretty well respected, I wouldn't be shocked if changes come.

( I do enjoy watching little brothers from the central squabble though)

The only downside is when the Oilers are picking in the top 3 it's hard to miss in the draft. So they could build a contender in a few years by default.

They could, but once those entry level contracts expire, it's going to be tough to retain all that high priced talent.

Speaking of high priced talent:

Lou Brown: I thought you said we didn't have any high priced talent?
Donovan: I forgot about Dorn because he's just high priced.
Lou Brown: Still hits the ball, doesn't he?
Donovan: Yeah, he just can't field it.

Considering how awful the Smyth deal has turned out for Edmonton & with some of the high draft picks not panning out I'm amazed Lowe & Tambellini still have their jobs.

Just about every Islanders fan who followed the team at the time of that trade could have told them Nilsson & O'Mara were busts. Snow dumped every prospect Milbury drafted.
