Decent signing. Not sure why it took all Winter, though.

Boras seemed to think there was a “Lorenzo Cain” type deal out there, but he was way off.

2nd year is a player option. So JBJ can opt out and hit the market again next Winter if he wants.....

I won’t miss him much. He was great in CF, no doubt. But he was maddening to watch at the plate. His bat would show up for a couple weeks and then disappear for months. He just was never able to put it all together.

That is true without a doubt but...........
He is my wife's favorite.
Not sure if I want to go home for a few days after she hears this.

There's gonna be a few teams kicking themselves over this one.

He was definitely HUGE during the 2018 postseason run. I’ll always appreciate him for that, but I’m happy to turn the page.

Not sure how many others would have given more than $24m to a glove-first player who strikes out all the time? Maybe the Mets?

Brewers paying good money for outfield defense. He may have only gotten a minor league deal if his defense sucked. But I understand their reluctance to go beyond two years. His defense is still pretty good. He was on pace for 2.0 dWAR over a full season last year. But he turns 31 this season and outfielders' defensive efficiency tends to start dropping off on the wrong side of 30.

He's no BWADY!!!!

She can adopt the Brewers as her NL team for a year or two. :thumb:

I view this as a pretty good signing for the Brewers. Counsell loves playing the righty-lefty matchups and adding JBJ gives him the ability to platoon him with Lo Cain and not lose anything in the field while optimizing plate production from the CF position.

The Brewers are spending 60% of their payroll on four outfielders, but that is not a bad deal right now because they won't have to pay any of their pitchers or infielders big dollars for at least the next couple years.

His bat over the last 4 seasons was disappointing, especially after hitting so well in 2015-16 (.262/.345/.489, 118 OPS+) but you can live with a ~90 OPS+ when it comes with good CF defense. Not a star but a solid enough player, and losing him is just another blow to what was already a thin outfield. One of my favorite Sox players in a while, I'll miss him.

I do wonder where they play JBJ and Cain. I think Cain is/was the better defender, but he is coming off an injury and is older so he's probably headed to a corner spot.

Damn big market Brewers, always taking players from a small market like the Red Sox!

JBJ has his flaws but I don't think the strikeouts are really that much of an issue. Looking at 2017-20, he isn't even in the top (bottom?) 60 in K%. He ranks 62nd. He just doesn't walk enough or hit for quite enough power to really offset the pedestrian BA.

And $12M is pretty much the going rate for a 2~ WAR player in free agency.

That’s a hell of an outfield D with JBJ in Center and Cain in left.

And it's not like Yelich plays a poor right field.
