REDSKINS SIGN HEAD COACH JAY GRUDEN TO MULTI-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed Head Coach Jay Gruden to a multi-year contract extension. Full terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Gruden is entering his fourth season as head coach of the Redskins in 2017 after joining the organization on Jan. 9, 2014. After a four-win campaign in his debut season in 2014, Gruden and his staff helped engineer back-to-back winning seasons in 2015-16, the team’s first such consecutive campaigns since 1996-97.

Last season, Gruden and his staff oversaw the team’s record-shattering offense, which posted franchise records in total net yards (6,545), net passing yards (4,758) and yards per play (6.40), ranking in the Top 3 in the NFL in all three categories. The distribution of the offensive contributions allowed eight Redskins players to finish the season with at least 500 yards from scrimmage, tying the 2011 New Orleans Saints for the most in a single season in NFL history.

In 2015, Gruden led the Redskins to a 9-7 record and the 15th division title in franchise history, completing the second “worst-to-first” turnaround in team annals. That year, he became the sixth coach in team history to lead the Redskins to a playoff berth within the first two years at the helm, joining Ray Flaherty, Dutch Bergman, Dudley DeGroot, George Allen and Joe Gibbs.

Gruden, 50, is a native of Tiffin, Ohio.

I think the beef is about appearances. Most though Scot was running the show. Then he isn't allowed to talk at the Senior Bowl and doesn't show at the combine. Leaves everyone to speculate, maybe there are personal problems, maybe there are professional problems.

I think a lot of people thought Bruce was in charge of picnics and uniform colors. So NOT true. He is 2nd in command.

With yesterdays extension of Gruden that is the first time in 18 years he has signed a HC to a second or extended contract. Coming off back to back winning seasons for the first time in 20 years. You have to give the entire team FO through players credit for that.
No, I give Snyder the credit as he signs the checks! I'm sure Allen had input but ultimately Dan signed off.
