Think about it! It solves everyones' problems.

Cutler for Mettenberger straight up is a great deal for Bears and Titans. Also good for Mettenberger (Titans obviously not sold and prefer Mariota), Cutler (can't get out of Chicago fast enough and gets to go home to Nashville), and for Mariota so he doesn't "have to" start in year one. Deal works for everyone. Get it done!

Doubt it happens. John Fox prefers his player well-experienced, especially at the QB position.

I think it is too risky for the Bears. Personally, I think that Mettenberger is a good quarterback, but he has not proven himself yet. I think John Fox would rather have an average season with Cutler than have a boom or bust season with Mettenberger. I think John Fox will take the safer route here.

If it was going to happen it would have happened before the draft. I could see it if Jay Cutler's cap hit wasn't so ridiculous but at this point both teams will just stick with what they got.

Why would the Titans want to pay a backup that much money?

the bears would do that in a second if the titans took cutler's entire salary. no one is taking cutlers money

As toxic as Cutler can be at times, he's still a more proven player than Mettenberger whom I like a lot as a prospect...I can see the Bears saying okay, lets rebuild with the younger QB, but I wouldn't do that straight up if I'm CHI.

IMO...TN screwed up here...they could've gotten a stud DL, their WR, and still gotten insurance for Mett. Mariota really has to shine to make that look worth while to me....if he's just okay (predicatable) they probably could've done just as well with Mannion or Mett.

One to follow for certain.

The Bears never offered Cutler in a trade. That was only offseason BS by writers.

They really couldn't trade him this offseason. His cap hit would have went from $16 to almost $30M had they traded him (a cap hit of $30M to a player not on your roster is unheard of).

He either has a solid year and the Bear's commit to two more seasons or he gets cut or traded next March before his 2016 salary becomes guaranteed.

And this doesn't even get into the fact that Cutler is worth a hell of a lot more than Mettenberger.

OP is out of his mind. The Titians just used their top pick on a QB, why in the hell would they want to trade a cheap back up for a QB with a mind blowing contract?

The OP may not realize that Jay's contract is a negative equity contract. In other words the commodity is worth less than the value of the contract. It is similar to owning a rock that costs $347 per month on a payment plan. Sure, it's a nice rock. It's just not worth that kind of dough.

Neither has Cutler.

Now that's funny.

What a whacky proposition. That would leave a crappy team with about $30,000,000+ tied up in quarterback.
