There's no reason at all to trade him for fatass Pablo, if they try to trade him and eat part of the contract to get prospects I'd understand. Not sure it's worth it at this point, but we'll see. Hopefully Preller will think twice before making the big and bold trades/signings after what happened last year.

I'd be done if that happened.

Not really, but close.

Yeah I mean that would be idiotic on the Padres part but I'd love it if it happened since get rid of Pablo. Isn't gonna happen

Unlike shameless Giants fans, Padres fans would never glorify and excuse that fat, disrespectful clown, call him "cute" and "silly" for being a fat piece of shit. I like that Sox fans won't either. It's really an indictment of Giants fans in general and what I've been saying for years about them!

Holy smokes the Giants envy burns within you with the heat of a thousand suns! He was hella productive for the Giants right before he totally tanked after leaving the team. We were wringing our hands but my god Giants got another one right.

Really hard to argue that when they offered morenthan Boston.

Yeah you'd think at least they'd want to match the money neutrally (so Sox pay like 12 mil) plus get a prospect or 2.

If yoy think you're buying low and Pablo can turn it around....plus Im not sure shields is the answer in the east at this point.

No way I'd do it. But I also never wanted panda in the first place.

If the Padres are gonna trade Shields, I'd wait till the trade deadline and hope he has a bounce back first half(less HR's and ERA closer to 3 than 4). Moving one bad contract for an even worse one makes no sense when SD is in semi-rebuild mode, even if Pablo did turn it around. Shields did have some success in the AL and in that ALE, but it was years ago so it's hard to know if he'd be able to get back to that.

always thought the Sox should have used Panda or Hanley's money to sign Shields after the 2014 season. Padres got a great deal on him.

I would've rather just used that money to keep Lester.

I'd be happy with regular season James after the last two years of last place.

He did log over 200 innings again, and had his best K:BB rate in his career last season

For a guy that has already proven he could pitch in the AL East, hes a good get, especially if its just a salary dump

Yup, but they were smart enough to also insist on WEIGHT CLAUSES in his contract, which is why he felt "disrespected" and decided to go to the home of Mo Vaughn and BIG Papi. If only he felt "disrespected" by cheeseburgers.

I have a sickening feeling that Preller is gonna trade for Pablo, and it makes me sad.

lots of trips to golden corral:suds:

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Padres are scouting Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval.

Yangervis Solarte currently projects to open the season as the Padres' starting third baseman, but the club was interested in Sandoval last winter before he landed a five-year, $95 million deal with the Red Sox. His first season in Boston obviously didn't go so well. Just because the Padres had a scout watching Sandoval doesn't mean that a trade is imminent, but Cafardo speculates that a deal could involve James Shields, who has $65 million remaining on his contract with the Padres. Meanwhile, the Red Sox still owe $77.4 million to Sandoval. Boston would almost certainly have to throw in a very good prospect (and cover some of the money involved) to make it worth San Diego's while.

Yeah but they didn't. I think they offered 5/85 (with weight clauses) and Boston paid 5/95. It was close enough that when we still kind of wanted him to stay we were a little grumpy that he left for hardly any more cash. Sometimes the baseball gods just keep smiling on you....Boston has had a pretty good run since 2004 so quit yer bitching. :-)

I have heard the reports that the Giants made an equal or greater offer to Pablo since the day he signed with Boston. However, I stated at the time that I thought it was possible they were doing Pablo a solid by bidding his price up. He did not want to return for a number of reasons (he wanted to spread his wings, he didn't want "camp Panda"...) and the Giants would only have him back on an incentive-laden contract with a weight clause (which they knew he would never agree to).

I just don't believe the reports that he turned down a similar or greater contract from the Giants (sans weight clause). He was done in SF. He was saying his goodbyes in the dugout DURING game 7, for Christ sake.

Padres should be thrown out of baseball if they acquire Pablo Sandoval for James Shields
