Houston's second-leading scorer is averaging all of 12.6 points per game. Looked at the team stats on CBS just now. That's not effective ball distribution. If you're in search of the source of why Houston has taken steps back this year, this is it.

This guy is really making me not hate Kobe anymore. Pure ego.

Without his con of reaching his arms out on drives to draw fouls, he's nothing special.

I find his flailing trying to get fts almost every time he goes in the paint annoying, almost a 3rd of his points come from free throws. He's also shooting it worse than he did last year while taking more shots.

Gotta love guys who think they are "franchise players" and aren't. Unfortunately for the Rockets, they have 2 such players. If either Harden or Howard had accepted that they are great #2 type players, they might each already have a ring.

Would do the Rockets justice for this team to return to be one-and-done or worse in the playoffs after the way the owner let this crybaby railroad McHale out of town.

Harden, Cousins and Melo are all examples of guys who you're not sure if they help or hurt your team.

The accuracy of this thread is beyond scary. Harden's extremely overrated.

When Cousins plays his game instead of getting frustrated and upset about calls, he definitely helps his team. Problem is, he gets frustrated too easily. I like that he shows emotion, but he needs to channel it better. One night he looks like the best big man in the NBA and the next he looks like a crybaby who is shooting 7-21 with half a dozen turnovers, the inconsistency of him and the entire team is annoying to watch.

It's also funny how fast opinion has shifted on Harden. I remember tons of debates last year about him and Curry between the MVP. He even got voted MVP by his peers for the players award. Now he's quickly fallen into the most overrated category and honestly a fringe All-Star, despite his statistical output.

Cousins may mature out of this.

If he does, the Kings will make the playoffs this season. If he doesn't, he'll be traded before becoming a free agent. I hope he does, because I really want the Kings in the playoffs even if it means they get squished by the Spurs or Warriors in 4/5 games.

Harden has always basically been a one trick pony, which is why he's not a franchise type player. Now that the refs and other players are on to his one trick, he's become less effective.

And there are lots of playoff stats to back it up.

Agreed with the masses. I know so many casual fans who think hes stud cuz they just see the big 3 of stats. He simply isn't a build around player.

Loved him when he was in OKC.

Would agree with this. Its just that they think they can carry a team when they are really the best at being the number two option.

Harden, Howard, and Melo will NEVER win anything as long as they are the lead horses for their teams. NEVER. Not only is he a one trick pony offensively, he plays no defense. Players like him could be the greatest offensive threats ever......but with no defense, they have no chance. Look at a Steve Nash......great offensive player, but being an open door to the lane on defense cost him his entire career.

He could be a #1 if he wants to be, but his ego gets in the way of what Houston is trying to accomplish as a team.

I agree. There's no question that from a talent perspective, Harden has what it takes to be a #1, but as you say, his ego gets in the way. Plus, he's so focused on scoring, that he forgets about passing and defense.

It's scary to think what OKC could have been if he had been willing to stay and accept a little lesser role to win. Along the lines of what Bosh did in Miami with Lebron and D-Wade.
