Jameis Winston - QB - Seminoles

Florida State redshirt freshman QB Jameis Winston was named the The Associated Press national player of the year on Tuesday.

Winston had already won the Heisman Trophy, the Walter Camp national player of the year award, Davey O'Brien quarterback of the year honors and the Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year decoration. He received 49 of 56 votes cast by the AP's Top 25 college football poll voters, besting Northern Illinois' Jordan Lynch (three), Alabama's AJ McCarron (two), Boston College's Andre Williams and Michigan State's Darqueze Dennard (one apiece). The 6-foot-4, 228-pound Winston set the FBS freshman record with 3,820 passing yards this season.

Jameis Winston - QB - Seminoles

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio believes Florida State redshirt freshman QB Jameis Winston should sit out the 2014 football season.

Florio notes Winston will not do it, but points out 20-year-olds do not think about specific injuries that could shorten their future playing careers. "The long term smart business decision for Jameis Winston, if he truly will be a top pick in 2015, don't play." We believe Winston is an excellent prospect, but he only has 14 games under his belt, and the national championship game showed he still has things to work on. Florio believes Winston should hire a coach if he does sit out a season, but it is impossible to simulate game action.

Jameis Winston - QB - Seminoles

NFL.com's Bucky Brooks believes Florida State redshirt sophomore QB Jameis Winston has the "it" factor evaluators look for in prospects at the position.

"Winston will undoubtedly enter next fall as the top quarterback prospect in the 2015 class," Brooks writes. "...With coaches and scouts known to place added emphasis on big-game performance and clutch playmaking, Winston will be hard to supplant as the top quarterback prospect in next year's class." Winston did struggle at the start of the game, dropping his eye level after the defense prevented the quarterback from throwing from a balanced base. The redshirt freshman also focused on his first read frequently. We are still huge fans of Winston's game, and hopefully this does not turn in to a "build him up, then tear him down" situation.

Jameis Winston - QB - Seminoles

Florida State redshirt sophomore QB Jameis Winston is the favorite to win the closer role on the school's baseball team.

Winston told reporters last week that his new goal is to win a baseball national championship. ACC coaches have picked Florida State to win the Atlantic Division. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Winston possesses a 95 mph fastball and a decent slider. Coach Mike Martin called Winston a "very dominating pitcher" by the end of last season. "We will use Jameis just like we do everybody else," Martin said. "We're not going to treat him any differently and he doesn't want to be treated any differently. He's a Seminole baseball player now. We're going to use him outfield, we're going to use him on the mound, we're going to use him as a DH some." Winston posted a 3.00 ERA in 2013 in 27 innings as a reliever, and hit .235 with seven doubles and three triples in 41 games.

Building up his holdout leverage - not for more money, as the CBA handles that, but the trade me leverage. ;)

After watching him a few I think he's overrated at this point. I do not think he'll be an effective NFL qb ever the way he looks to me.

I've been wrong before.

Jameis Winston - QB - Seminoles

Baseball America named Florida State redshirt sophomore QB Jameis Winston a third-team preseason All-American on Monday.

Winston is a closer on the school's baseball team, and also plays in the outfield and at designated hitter. Miami baseball coach Jim Morris said in November that Winston could be a first-rounder in football and baseball. Winston posted a 3.00 ERA in 2013 in 27 innings as a reliever, and hit .235 with seven doubles and three triples in 41 games.
