Yeah, there was no way around it. I thought he should've been dealt with last season. Poor guy, questionable drafting.

I like him too, hope he finds work soon.

Even more interesting, the owner is selling the team. The NFL may return to L.A. afterall.

Good. It's ridiculous that Jacksonville even has a team.

I don't know too much about Del Rio so what I have to say is a bit blind but didn't he release his last two starting QBs the week before the regular season or close to it?

I understand doing what you have to do but that seems unfair because it gives the QB so little time to go elsewhere. Part of me understands that you don't want to help your rivals and so releasing him in time could render your job more difficult. I also don't subscribe to the idea that it's noble to act against your own interest. I mean, as an owner of a mall, would you fire your Santa actor on Halloween or on December 24th at 11PM when it's too late for him to work elsewhere, namely the mall across the street? Bad example, but as a normal business, why release someone who will join a competitor if given proper time?

But then another part of me says that if you don't want someone, not even as a backup (though the money owed rendered backup duty impossible), release him earlier. There are a few mitigating factors that could have come into play, such as not knowing whether you wanted to keep the guy, not knowing the injury status or capabilities of the QB, getting a too-good-to-refuse opportunity at someone better, etc. But the Jags had no replacement. They just held on and released Garrard at the last minute, well after Garrard could legitimately pursue another team.

I thought the way Orton was released was risky, had KC won on Monday and the Broncos lost, it would allow Orton to salvage the season and challenge them, but that was after you gave Orton the chance to win this season. Garrard didn't win enough to be the clear guy the previous season, but he wasn't given a chance this year.

I don't know, part of me thinks it's just results for Del Rio to be fired midseason. Part of me thinks they should have done this, say March, after the key coaching positions are shored up (with a deal in place for the successor so you're not shooting your own foot). Of course, the Jags wouldn't punish Del Rio this way because releasing Garrard saved them money. Plus, punishment should be natural karma, not strategic firing by someone in which isn't an injured party.

Garrard was damaged goods. His back was wrecked. Me thinks they knew that when they kicked him to the curb.

no way should the jags stay in jacksonville. pretty dumb to have a team there. they dont even support there team and florida already has 3 teams.

So if the jags move to LA, what would happen to the divisions?

That's also what they said about the Sonics. I'm not saying they're moving, but it's all talk to appeal to the fan base now.

I would love if the NFL contracted. I thought 30 teams and 6 divisions was perfect.

I hope the Jags don't move to L.A. though. L.A. doesn't deserve an NFL team.

Here's hoping that they leave soon. Living in N. Florida I get tired of them.

No doubt!

This.

That city never had a chance to support an NFL franchise. Dumb, dumb, move by the NFL to expand there.

Florida has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. No one around here can afford tickets. Worst Super Bowl host in the history of the NFL! No reason for them not to move.

Both needed to be let go but the timing for both was awful. Stupid moves for a head coach.:juggle:

On the brighter side for me.......they're one step closer to moving to LA. Then i might get good football coverage on TV around here!;)

He seems like a great guy, a players coach, but he made too many bad decisions. I'd trust him as a DC but never again as a HC.

Yeah, that should be his most likely destination. As a DC.

Watch he'll go to the Eagles...(random with an educated guess)

Screw L.A. why not put a team in San Antonio? It has a bigger population than most NFL cities and it's in a state that is big on football. The Saints did really well the year they called the Alamo Dome home after Katrina. I know that puts 3 teams in Texas but at least the state can easily support it.

I've never understood why that city has such a nice stadium that no one really plays in since the Spurs got their own arena a few years ago.
