Keep in mind with the contract he'll get he'd probably garner a 3rd or 4th round compensatory pick anyway.

49ers have been pretty savvy with that though

I mean if they sign a free agent(s) that offsets what they lost in Potty then the league will consider it a wash and not compensate the 49ers.

I think I misunderstood what you originally said; this seems to contradict the "no."

We both understand how it works though.

Trading Iupati for a 4th or 5th rounder is essentially giving him away.

You trade Iupati for no less than a 2nd round pick and that's IF you trade him.

Anything less you're better off keeping him and getting the comp pick.

Since our window is open now I'm inclined to keep him next season and get the comp pick if he leaves for FA. If someone offers a 1st or high 2nd though it would be something I would pull the trigger on if the feeling is an extension isn't likely.
