I thought this was funny quote from Kobe regarding Luke:

They won't fire Scott before the end of the season imo. Not that I think he should be fired at all.

The one I wish we could fire (or stick on season ending IR) is Kobe.

22 shots last night. Would like to see the youngsters getting some of those.

I've supported Kobe his entire career and even tried to defend the ridiculous extension but it's clear he doesn't care at all about winning or in his distorted mind him shooting that much gives them the best chance to win....I can't wait till he retires.

It's kind of sad.

And Byron won't do anything about it.

Free Tarik Black already. Bass is not a center.

Black showed he can play last season after we picked him up. He'll never be a starter but he's a solid rotation guy on a team that goes 9-10 deep. He can contribute for 15mpg.

More brilliance from Byron:

This is just poor justification for Kobe's shot attempts.

I've supported Byron and there is some truth to what he says about Kobe having earned certain rights that younger players haven't. Byron had to earn everything he got when he joined the Showtime Lakers, Kobe had to earn everything he got when he joined the Lakers. Once you earn it, you're allowed a little "indulgence" from time to time.

Having said that, once you have been in the league long enough to have earned those rights, you've also been in the league long enough to know when it's time to stop shooting and get the other guys involved.

I hope Byron's comments are just to protect Kobe in his last season and that they are having different conversations behind closed doors. I doubt it though, considering he's still shooting too much.

I'm beginning to think that Byron was hired, not to develop the youth, but to usher out the Kobe era in fanboy fashion. He's not going to hold Kobe accountable for his shot selection.

I was wondering about that the other day, if he's basically been told, we're not going to the playoffs, people want to see Kobe, it's his last season, let him shoot. :noidea:

That may be all well and good to have Scott "protect" Kobe's "fairwell" tour but wasn't the goal of all of the moves that Mitch and Short Buss made this summer and the drafting of Russell to progress the Lakers into rebuild mode and develop the core of young players? I think Scott is forgetting his mission here. This is turning into a dog and pony show of the laughable kind.

Granted, featuring Kobe can be featured while allowing the youngsters play in a developing fashion. But what baffles the hell out of me is why Scott continues to trot out Bass at the 5 with the second team when it is clear this is not working all the while Tariq Black, who has proven to be an effective 5, sits on the bench. When asked about it, Scott sort of just dodges the questions. I think the man has flipped myself.

WTH? If you are trying to build a new young core and focus on winning, this is what you are focusing on in response to Kobe questions? Seriously? What coach in the NBA trots out that kind of reasoning when the mission is to teach his young players how to win. I think Scott has flipped.

Byron Scott says Kobe Bryant has earned the right to take terrible shots

Kobe has stated that he is confident that the Lakers will upset the Warriors. What shit is this guy smoking?

Actually, what I read was "stranger things have happened."

IF Kobe turned back the clock and had one of those "Kobe games" from a few years back AND the youngsters all played well AND the game was at Staples, then the Lakers would have a shot.

But the game is at Oracle, the crowd will be out of their minds, so if Kobe has a Kobe game and the kids play well, they might keep it within 10.

I'm guessing blowout though.

Oh and Kobe would feel confident that this team could beat the best of the Showtime Lakers. Wouldn't expect him to say anything else.

I think the man is intoxicated with some narcissistic issues myself and can't or won't come to grips with the fact that it is time to retire. Shaq and Charles were stating something similar the other night.

I think your right. I think after season with kobe gone, they bring in a whole new staff.

Turning the team over to Scott was a huge mistake. He is too close to the team. No matter how poorly the Lakers play no one will want to be the one to point to Scott. We are stuck with him I'm afraid.
