I tend to believe that the Lakers still aren't quite there as a contender yet - unless they can develop Hayes into a better defender -

Not only are they not a contender yet...you can make a solid argument that they actually have gotten worse because they lost a DPOY candidate on a team that was rounding into shape defensively and lost a player who had become a solid wing defender in Christie.

They had better hope the Lebron can teach Doncic some better work ethics and stays healthy- This was getting ready for next year and they may have blown any chances they had for another year until Lebron retires.

They're in an interesting spot. I'm sure that, as we speak, they are attempting to address their biggest issues (the hole in the middle of their defense) and 3 and D wing.

But, because they have Luka, they can be patient and wait for the right deal. If they don't get something done by Thursday, maybe Lebron opts out so they can sign an FA and then takes what is left under the 2nd apron (I think someone mentioned that he did that last off-season) which could allow them one more title run with him.

That is the thing- The Lakers have a 25 year old legitimate point guard and the best that they have had since Magic Johnson - Now if Lebron can mentor him, teach him to dial back the drinking and develop better work ethics - The kid will have a nice career - I like what Stephen A Smith said when he said that should be a wakeup call for Doncic. I don't think Lebron will opt out at this point - He has been wanting to play ball with Doncic for awhile now and has his chance - I do wish the Lakers had kept Zubac though - I liked that dude - He wasn't a high scorer - but he is a solid defender and role player - The Lakers were foolish to let him go

Nope.

Absolutely not true.

Recent champs have built a core through either draft or free agency and steadily improved and tweaked with those groups.

"Steadily improved and tweaked" you say? Sounds like a middle-of-the-pack team building into a champ. Exactly as I already explained to you repeatedly, and exactly as we have seen more often than not.

All of them had superstars in their core.

As soon as you talk about trading Chris Paul (a superstar) for a bunch of good, not great players you are putting a ceiling on that team.

Even if that were true, and it's not, describe the ceiling-less team that resulted from New Orleans acquiring their superstar, Davis.

And they are much better off tearing it down to the studs so they can draft their next franchise player.

Which they did

And how'd that work? It did not.

The "tanking" was in the decision to honor Kobe with that final contract. They knew before they did it that it meant they were not going to be able to put together a good team (though they did try). They could have chosen not to re-sign Kobe and used cap space to bring a high level FA or 2.

Personally, I have no issue with that decision. Kobe earned that honor.

And that is right about where the Warriors are with Steph.

They are trying desperately to upgrade the roster around him for one last run.

When that likely fails, my guess is it will be his choice. Stick it out on a rebuilder, or the Dubs look to deal him in the off season

I am not going round and round with you.

If you think the Celtics who went to the Wast Finals 6 out of 8 years and anything like what the core of the 2012 Hornets would have been after the Laker trade, then wow.

One is middle of the pack, the other was a legit contender.

For years.

Wisest choice you've made here yet. Give up and run away.

There's a sentence. Not a good one, but I guess technically is one.

One is middle of the pack, the other was a legit contender.

For years.
And year after year after year we see middle-of-the-pack teams turn into legit contenders, and champions. Precisely because the entire notion of mediocrity being a dead-end is completely unsupported by any facts at all.

Anyone who has not yet realized that is either completely ignorant, or paying no attention whatsoever.

Nope. What makes me feel better is the Celtics are defending champs. :D

How you been? Haven't seen you in a while.

You excited to have Luka in Los Angeles?
I have mixed feelings about - He is lazy and has a bad work ethic - and he is a heavy drinking - The Lakers are hoping that Lebron can mentor him and turn his attitude around - This where the Lakers got spoiled on Kobe Bryant and then Lebron - If Lebron can turn him around than we will see.

I think his attitude and health have got to be top priority - So nothing is in stone yet.

Davis was a good player - and the Lakers did win a championship with him - They haven't won anything with Davis - so I am cautious about getting excited to quit - but It would be neat to see a Boston vs Lakers Finals again.

Only because your definition of middle of the pack is completely out of whack.

To you it is anyone who does not win a title.

That is not what it means to anyone else.
Mediocrity is like the current Bulls roster.

That is middle of the pack.

That is not even close to what I have written. You continue to embarrass yourself, for no imaginable reason.

There are only 7 worse teams in the league than Chicago, which is considerably below "the middle".

But disregarding that, the Bulls are on pace for 34 wins this season. That is almost exactly the same number of wins that Toronto (34), Los Angeles (35), Milwaukee (33), and Denver (33) each had, a few seasons before they won their recent titles. None encountered this mythical dead-end that you are attempting to claim exists.

QED.

Suggest you return to your previous plan of giving up and running away.

Thanks for the breakdown. Didn't know about his heavy drinking. I think the combo of LeBron & Luka could be very dangerous.

And yes a Celtics/Lakers Finals would be neat to see again.

Alrighty then. Just wondering how tlance embarrassed himself, did he have the cojones to disagree with you?

I said 35 - 45 annually wins which is almost exactly the pace they are on.

Obviously does not apply to teams on the rise with young cores

You know, admitting you are wrong occasionally would actually win you some points here.

I discovered a few paragraphs by MSN kind of hating on Luka - I think Lebron can toughen him up. Dallas was worried about his conditioning in the future - For the Lakers - I think you would agree that Davis is not a franchise player you can build around and would have to be traded when LeBron retires any away- this was a no brainer for the Lakers with nothing to lose

First I wanna say I like watching Luka play. His conditioning has been rightly questioned since he entered the league. If that ever changes look out. He'll be even scarier on the court.

AD is a great player. I do agree he isn't a franchise player. Too injury prone and now on the wrong side of 30.

Luka's still in his 20's and can without a doubt be a franchise player.

It's too bad, Kobe Bryant isn't around to beat him into shape - I heard he used to be rough - One time he pulled the players out at 2 am in the morning to practice for the Conference finals which they won - LMAO
