Long viewed as the weak links in the NFL (and deservedly so), the Western divisions of the NFL have been doormats of the league for too long. The NFC West and the AFC West are proud divisions with multiple Superbowl victories over the years, but the last decade they've been in the basement of divisional performance. Until now....
The NFC West has been climbing rapidly in the last 2 or 3 years with San Francisco and Seattle leading the charge. The AFC West has been considered a bottom feeder for quite some time now, but the resurgence of Denver, Kansas City and San Diego seems to have them headed in the right direction. Many years of early draft picks will do that for you.
As I look at the western divisions, I see great quarterbacks, big play makers and solid coaching. As the cycle of the NFL goes, it seems reasonable that the East Coast dominance is on the decline.....at least for now. It's nice as a fan of a western division to see parity finally affect the performance of divisions.
What division is sliding the most? AFC North? NFC East? Two proud divisions with amazing accomplishments over the years, but undeniably on the decline. How long will this shift last? Who knows!
I see the NFC West and the AFC West performing at a high level for many years to come. It takes multiple years for patterns to shift and it's time that the West got it's due! What say you?
