In 10 days, he will be 33 years old. Currently has 416 goals and 355 assists for 771 points. Assuming he stays relatively healthy and plays to age 37 or 38, he should make it to the 500 goal plateau which pretty much cements a player in the Hall. He already has more goals and assists than hall of famer Cam Neely, although he's also played significantly more games than Cam.

If I was voting today, I'd say no, but if he's put together a solid end to his career, he will likely make it. What do you think?

Right now I lean towards no.

I can think of someone with 432 goals and 773 assists who is not in the hall, so I cannot see Nash being in unless he finishes really strongly.

That guy's jersey pops up from time-to-time as an avatar on this board if memory serves.

No, good player who was great at times but probably will not be a Hall of Famer.

When he comes back to Columbus and wins two cups YOU WILL SEE.

Pretty much the only way he's getting into the hall is when he buys a ticket. He'll be in the Columbus, Ohio hall of fame. And the Jackets will probably retire his number for all he did and still does around here.

That's the only thing he's missing to join the Triple Gold Club as he has an Olympic gold medal (two actually) and World Hockey Championship gold as well.

I don’t know any HOF’ers with 500+ goals who scored at a 0.5 PPG pace in the playoffs.

I also think he’ll tail off as he goes deeper into his 30’s and 500 goals is probably going to be a long shot for him.

He played in three Olympics and only managed 1 point in two of them so he doesn’t get an international bump.

Besides his Richard year he only finished top 10 in league scoring twice.

Hard no.

Never top dog on a really good team. No great playoff story. Never been the discussion for best player in any given season, or even really close. And with his average production (64 pts/ 82 g) he just doesn't check any of the boxes.

Now if he ages really well, plays until he's 39/40 and ends up around 600 goals that could change. But I think he's pretty certain no right now.

You could probably make a better argument for Jason Spezza and I don't think he'll get in either.

Going by current stats, points-per-game and playoff performance I'd even compare him (unfavourably) to a couple of other former Senators without a shot in hell of reaching the Hall.

Also, my 2 cents, I think Spezza’s got a half-decent shot. He can push 1000 pts and if he can get back into the playoffs a couple of times and play well he’s got a decent case.

Always the health with that guy. He's only 33 but that back has a lot of tough miles on it. Without the back issues he'd be a lock but if he stays healthy for 5 years or so I could see him with 1050-1100 points. Might get his close at any rate.

I definitely say no barring something major to finish his career. He'll at least be close to that 500 goal mark , but he's going to be seen in the same bucket as a lot of guys that have good numbers because of a lengthy career rather than ever being a great player.

I'd put him well behind guys who are already borderline and/or will have to wait a long time like Andreychuk, Recchi, and Roenick. Hell, I'd take Peter Bondra first.

Even moving outside of the 500 goal club, I'd put him behind Fleury, Damphousse, Bellows, and Brind'Amour (in no particular order), and those are all 1000 point guys (which he won't make), most of whom I don't think ever make it.

agree with the bold

i thought i could run a query on hockey reference that would give me Shane Doans stats through his first 989 nhl games for comparison but i couldnt find it and didnt want to waste much time on it lol ... so ...

through first 14 nhl seasons:
Nash: 771 points in 989 games
Doan: 678 points in 1047 games

i know its 100 points difference but its too close imo lol

/DOANED!!!

Yeah, but Doan is a born again Christian who battled and conquered Rocky Mountain fever, that's gotta count for something, right? Right?!?

Yeah he is, if he buys a ticket.

I'm sure somebody has already said it, but don't feel like reading all of the posts.

When he is old and gray and looks back on why he isn't in, he should walk up to both Howson and MacLean and kick both of them right in the nuts.

When he was at his peak, all he needed was a Center to draw attention away from him and give him chances to finish. And they kept drafting wingers, many who turned out to be shit or they drafted centers like Gilbert Brule when guys like Kopitar were still on the board. Then, right when they finally drafted that Center (Johansen) they asked Nash to leave.

Plus they went and handed him the Captaincy when he wasn't anywhere near mature enough to handle it. He got it just because he was the team's best player.

He could have been so much more.
